I do the same thing. When I was in the NYC subway, I was trying to figure out the entrance gate where you slid your metro card. I was having so much trouble. People laughed at me yet no one took the time to help me out. Sure did make me feel wonderful
Something similar happened to me one day I was travelling by train. I had to go to a very small town and I was the only passenger of my wagon going there. The train arrived to that town and I went to the exit door. I had to push a button to open the door and leave the train but I didn't find the button, I went to another wagon and finally I saw the button, it was big and it was in front of my eyes
people was watching me all the time. I felt very idiot. I went to that town to do a brainy project and I couldn't find a button that was in front of my eyes. A few seconds more and I would have missed my stop.
