I did the unthinkable. Yesterday, I phoned to book an appointment at a hairdressers. Today, I went to the hairdressers and had a haircut. As I was the only customer, there was no-one else getting their hair blow-dried or sprayed and there was no smell of hair dye, etc. I had a stylist attending to me and 2 trainees observing. She only used the dryer on my fringe (bangs), so the noise was tolerable and there were no other noises, so I knew what was being said. There were no smells, as I told the hairdresser I had allergies (which is true, but helpful when you can't stand certain smells), so she decided not to use any sprays. It was actually quite a pleasant experience. There was lots of talking, but it was mostly about my hair and what I thought would look nice and would be easy to cope with. I survived and I'm determined not to be afraid to go back. 8)

Awesome. Well done. :)

I hate the hairdresser. Hate it hate it hate it.

I am at my most autistic when at the hairdresser. All the hair-pulling (too lightly) makes me want to vomit, useless small talk that stalls atrociously ("Her: So, what do you do?" Me:"I'm a neuroscientist." Her:"...oh."), the lights are too bright and no one warns you when someone's about to turn a hairdryer on. And then I have to sit still for ages!

Torture chamber, I swear. I take the whole day off to get my haircut just so I can deal with the aftermath. But I do like the feel of the ends afterwards (the only consolation).,

It has been a whole day experience for me really. My appointment was at 10.30, but I went straight to town after dropping my daughter at school. I had plenty of time to go home first, but having less time to get there would just have stressed me out more. I got there with plenty of time to go into a cafe and have a cup of tea and had a bit of retail therapy (early morning, there was only one other customer). When I came out of the hairdressers, I went to Subway for lunch and sat at the window, watching the world go by, then I went to the library for a browse. This was all to calm myself down again. I feel like I'm on a bit of a high, as it all went so well and my hair looks good too.

I like my hairdresser. She's very nice. My mom goes to her, too, and told her I had AS. She's always very patient with me. When she does my hair and my eyebrows, we talk about different things. I feel comfortable talking to her. We talk about work, weekends, pets, many things. Plus, she's quite environmentally conscious, so I can talk to her about that, too.
