Recently on a game i play my friend said he had aspergers, before then i didn't have the slightest clue what it was. for the past 6 weeks or so I've looked at almost every page explaining about aspergers and looking at the symptoms i think i may have it, but want to see what you think. When i was 9 i was diagnosed with tourrettes syndrome but after reading about stims and ticks im doubting i have tourrettes. I always do the same movements and they can be controlled but if i don't do it then it feels really weird, also at school i am really boring, i hardly talk around friends, only on subjects im attached to like gaming or politics my friends call me "socially awkward", because when im around anyone i have no clue what to talk about, my mind goes blank. I don't really show much emotion on the face and my step-dad says i have a "monotone voice". Out of school I'm also very boring with my daily routine of coming home watching tv; eating tea then going upstairs on my pc, i don't do any out of school activities or hang out with my friends because i never know what to do with my friends i normally just stand there and be bored, so i tend to stay at home on my computer. I'm not very good at creative writing in English because i don't know what to write i just end up sitting there writing one really bad paragraph and also we did a speaking and listening activity and i got the lowest score in the class, i couldn't even look at the audience i was so scared, the speaking and listening was on the subject "what are your special objects, and why do you like them", that must have been the worst subject for me because i can't think of anything at all that's special to me, i just ended up talking about aload of crap i didn't care about. When i talk i always think im talking loud but im actually not, people say "speak up" "your too quiet" or "your mumbling" and when in a conversation it goes well for about a minute then goes really silent which is really awkward. After intensive research on the subject i took the AQ test and got a score of 34, i dont know if its accurate but it says there is a high possibility of my having AS. Theres alot more to talk about but im gonna leave it there, so what do you think do i have it?

I saw that lots of people looked at this post, but no one had replied yet, so I'll take a shot. The short answer is: we don't know because we don't know you, and even if we did AS is something that only a professional can really diagnose. That said, there are lots and lots of people who are comfortable self-identifying as AS because they know themselves very well and don't feel they need to go through the process of getting diagnosed.

You do seem to have a few qualities that could very, very well be AS. From your test result, I'd say there is a good chance, but it's also a test over the internet, and you definitely acknowledged that you don't know how reliable it is.

If you are interested in being diagnosed, I'd say talk to a school councillor or your gp and they might very well agree with you on this.

Only a pro can tell you for sure.

Invest a little money and get the book The Complete Guide to Aspergers Syndrome by Tony Attwood and read it. If you still think Aspergers applies to you after the book, go see a pro.

there are good lists of symptoms on web MD and AARP web sites. here's a brief test based on the criteria doctor use: www.iautistic.com/test_AS.php

I am sure I have AS. I figured it out while reading about it after my nephew was diagnosed. I don't want an official diagnosis as that may keep me out of a particular job I want.

I did this other test too Your Aspie score: 124 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 71 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

Only an appropriately-trained and licensed mental-health professional can render a valid diagnosis, but it must be done in person.

No book, on-line test, or poseur can do it for you

As one appropriately trained and licensed mental health professional has been known to say, "if you think you're autistic, you probably are." That would be Tony Attwood.

So, you should do more homework - and if necessary, see an appropriately trained and licensed mental health professional. If it helps, the vast majority of people who score 32+ with the AQ are not autistic.

Was this a typo?

No, it's true.

If someone presents with a suspicion of being on the spectrum, a score of 26+ should be sufficient for a full evaluation. Giving someone the quiz in other contexts means a score of 32+ is indicative of a need for evaluation. However, even though autistic people score higher on average than NTs, NTs can still get 32+ scores.

In this study: http://docs.autismresearchcentre.com/pa ... tal_AQ.pdf

80% of autistic people scored 32+ whereas 2% of people who were not autistic scored 32+. If that statistic remains consistent across the population, you're looking at - in terms of raw numbers - more NTs scoring that high than autistic people. My point was "Just because you got a 34 does not mean you are necessarily autistic."

How about a 31?

You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

20% of autistic people don't score 32+, so it's possible. That's why a 26+ is sufficient for someone who comes in saying they think they're autistic.
