new paper on autism's sensory-movement differences

A short but comprehensive paper on autism's sensory and movement differences was recently published: http://www.frontiersin.org/Integrative_ ... 00038/full It is in an "open access" journal, meaning you don't need to pay to read it and it can be shared freely. It packs in many scientific articles but it is written from the perspective of an autistic self-advocate and I think it is consistent with many autistic people's lived experiences.

Here's a sample excerpt: "Autistics' challenges with sensory processing, motor skills, emotion regulation, and executive functioning often mask the extent or expression of their social understanding or interest in neurotypical contexts. Neurotypicals do not naturally recognize the full reasons for sensory-movement differences, and their centrality to communication differences, because they involve areas they process intuitively."

What about all the people with SPD who are not on the autistic spectrum?

It's opinion article written by autistic researcher at UCLA. He is saying that differences in sensory/motor systems cause some of the social and communication behavioral differences observed in autistics. That is generally reasonable, but the links may not be so clear as he makes in article. Also, some social and communication differences are caused by lack of social cognition instead. The sensory/motor differences may not be same in non-autistic SPD as autism.
