That stuff is old news, and it's of little relevance as to the issues that we are discussing, in the present.

Personally, I prefer an old topic to be bumped up than the same subject to be created countless times over - we just end up repeating ourselves then.

A few that come to mind are threads concerning "Rain Man", so-called "self-diagnosed" Aspies, whether people would want to change their diagnosis (or lack of), and Autism Speaks's misintentions.

Ok so like, by old you mean threads on the second page and further right?
Since I only stick to the first page.

people are bumping posts from 2004,

they would have to be putting the topics in the search (or stalking Tom as most seem to be his old threads lol)

The threads were from 2004/2005 and lot of the people who posted in those threads don't even come here anymore, nor the OP.

I honestly have no problems with threads being bumped just as long as the OP still comes to the forum or if its a thread in the random discussion or in the games section for roleplaying and quizzes because it doesn't matter who started the thread. They're not posting for advice. Replying to a bunch of old threads in a short period of time bumps the new post the to second page page or to third or to the forth and it gets annoying. If it was one or two threads bumped, I wouldn't mind.

I've bumped old threads before only because the OP still came to the board and/or it was just a random discussion and it didn't matter if people who posted in the thread didn't come here anymore. It just brought it back to life.

This has always made me laugh. All forums enourage their members to search before making a new topic, then when they do so and post in it, they've done something wrong. If they don't search and make a new thread that's been done before... You guessed it... They've done something wrong.

You can't win!

That's what I thought, no matter what you do it's WRONG and that's that. the only alternative is to not post threads at all, and if that happened there would be no activity, and then people would be angry.

 It doesn't surprise me..... I've made a new thread: "What's the difference between AS and HFA" is that what the problem is about?
If it is, i'm simply do apologise about it, all I wanted to get off my chess was if I was Aspergers or High-Functioning Autism.
I obviously didn't know it was discussed before... and I'm very sorry.

If it was about a very old post like back to like 2005 etc, then I can simply understand how annoying that is...

But of course! This is WRONG Planet, after all. By definition everything you do here is wrong. :)

I personally do not have a problem with a person opening an old thread as long as it is a topic of current revelance. I agree that by adding to old threads, you cut down on the number of threads that are created, especially those that repeat themselves. If I am looking for advice or information about a subject, the fewer places I have to look, the better.

I don't understand why people make a big deal about this on most message boards. It is a lot more helpful to look fewer places for information.

Maybe it's because of New Year's day? Bringing up old threads to honor the coming of the new year? Sort of illogical to me, but maybe logical for someone else in their own way.

Yeah I agree with you. The forum I attended before WP was very very strict on refering people to use already excisting threads. If they didnt then their new threads with an old theme was closed by moderator. And then we talking a forum that is far way much smaller than WP

So when I came here I was surprised that nobody cared about same kind of thread to be opened "all the time"
WP is an enormous big forum and the more threads of similuar themes the more difficult it is to find info around. Its difficult as it already is...

But bringing on extremely old threads from 2004 that is not general can be confusing because many people dont pay attention to the date when a post was made and reply to it like it was written yesterday...

I'm pretty new to WP, and stuff like this scares me. That's all I'd need for my shaky self-esteem, would be to inadvertently screw up and be rejected by an ASD forum full of people who by definition inadvertently screw up and get rejected by NT society. Kind of like Hermie and Rudolph being misfits on the Island of Misfit Toys.

If I do anything wrong on WP, it's not on purpose. To my knowledge, I have not done anything wrong, but I have learned from bitter experience IRL that most of the time that fact means nothing. Please, everyone, be gentle with me?

Don't worry about it. Just be yourself. No matter who you are and where you are, someone will always fid something to complain about. It's not worth worrying about and it's not your problem, it's theirs.
