(for people who have already been diagnosed)

How many times did you see your psychiatrist before you got the correct diagnosis?

mine said that one time would be sufficient (approximately 2 hours) and that the same day I'll have the results of the tests and eventually the diagnosis.
I think is too early : \

what do you think?

I've been followed by two different psychologists in the last two years but only the third one (who is specialized in the autism spectrum) and that saw me only few times said to me that in all probability it's a mild form of autism. Is that enough to get an accurate diagnosis? Is it the standard procedure or it's too fast?

thank you in advance.

(I live in Italy and I'm 21)

I only needed to visit the psychiatrist for the crossdiagnosing. (I think it was 3-4 visits.) Means he was not responsible for diagnosing autism (that was the job of the autism specialist centre afterwards) but to make sure, that its not one of the similar diagnosis, like schizophrenia and so on. He wrote a 4-paged description to the autism specialist centre: So he agreed that there were signs of autism and recommended to go for a possible diagnosis, and also wrote about why he didnt think that it would be one of the similar stuff. So as example no magic thinking at all as it is often with schizophrenia, he saw signs of a major depression that often causes symptoms of autism but additional also typical autism behaving that is not linked with depression and so on.

So the psychiatrist was in my country not for proofing that its autism, but instead he proofed that it wasnt anything else.

I was diagnosed a year later after I had begun seeing my old psychiatrist and he was knowledgeable of autistic disorders. Though waited to be certain the actual source of my lack of social skills and age appropriate behavior was autism, not comorbid depression.
