Hi, folks...I'm back!
When I was a little kid, it was very rare to see me with one or a few of my stuffed animals (they were all pretty small, as a rule)...my Barney, my Baby Bop, my Pooh plushies, the plushie of Sneezy from "Snow White" that my aunt got for me when I was a baby.
However (and I may have posted about this in one or two other threads), there were many other random objects I carried around with me as a little kid...here is but a partial list of those items:
- A plastic toy of Pongo from 101 Dalmatians
- A plastic yellow baby spoon
- A seashell
- A toy of Lowly Worm (the Richard Scarry character) in his apple car
- A Barbie toy I got from McDonald's (don't ask me why, I never cared for Barbies when I was a kid)
- A red rubber dinosaur
- A Minnie Mouse necklace
- A Mario toy I called "Super Mario"
- Assorted plastic Barney toys
- A dried-out lump of green Play-Doh
- A small plastic figurine of the screaming woman from Edward Munch's "The Scream" - I always called her "Ingrid."
...And I'm sure there were many others. I don't actually remember a lot of these objects; many I've pieced together from memories triggered by looking at photos taken during my infancy and early childhood. My mom also tells me that when she started sending me to school, and I would get anxious about what time she was coming to get me (that, and I didn't want to be at school in the first place), she drew me a picture of a wall clock with the hands indicating 3:00. She gave it to me and told me, "When you get worried during the day, just look at this clock - when the hands on this clock look like the hands on the clock at school, that's when I or daddy will come get you." I wasn't allowed to have any of my stuffed friends or special objects with me in school (Gee, wonder if that was a possible reason why I didn't like it much?), so I held onto that clock drawing the way I would one of my security items. I can't remember if I understood the concept behind the clock drawing; but in all likelihood, I probably would have freaked out if I lost it, or if it got worn out or thrown away.
Did anyone else ever carry around "strange," "random," or "unusual" items with them when they were young - or still do? Heck, I still carry a bunch of my "little friends" around with me....and how many "little friends" I have with me directly depends on how scary or anixety-provoking I anticipate a given situation will be. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
