I often sway back and forth when standing up... although this is mostly because I hate standing up and quickly become tired. When I was a child I also used to 'knead' the ends of pillow cases, where there's lumps, as I enjoyed doing it for some reason.

To be honest I never heard/thought of the concept of stimming before reading about ASD-related things, and since it seems everyone can relate to it in one way or another I'm trying to see whether any of the things I did or still do could be considered as such.

I "thumped" with my index fingers on ridges on pillows and my jeans or fabrics close at hand until I was a teenager and got shamed out of it.

I like running the seams of things under my fingernails. If there is no seam, I fold the fabric to run it under there. That's only one of many. I don't rock any more. I learned not to do that in front of people. Weird thing is though, sometimes I'll rock in my head. Kinda check out and just feel it in my head.

I don't know whether the things I think of as nervous habits are stimming or not, but there are a number of them:

Repeatedly clicking a retractable pen if I'm holding one.

I do the thing with following clothing seams with my fingers, like the previous poster.

I used to bounce my right leg when seated at a desk working.

As I type this, I'm rhythmically bending & unbending my big toes in an alternating manner.

Often I cross my legs at the ankles under the chair I'm sitting in and wiggle one foot.

Continuous rubbing of earlobes and/or eyebrows.

Good link! Found a few more things I do. (As I type this I'm in a doctor's office waiting room and realized I'm discreetly wiggling my big toes inside my shoes.)
