Hiya all,
I have just created a website about Asperger's that took me about a week to make. I know basically nothing about making websites, and so googled "make your own free website" in order to find a site that would allow me to make a basic site free and walk me through it. Luckily, this one was pretty easy to figure out, all things considered.
Everyone always told me I should make an Asperger's website, but I didn't want to make a site that would replicate the same things that a hundred million other sites were already saying. If you want to know what Asperger's is, if you want a bullentin board or whatever, you don't need my site. However, I reconsidered making a website when I read my 40th book on autism and AS, and thought to myself, "I've read 40 books on autism and AS. I need to mark this somehow." And I had the idea of putting them on a website as a resource to others. At first, it was just going to be a book list and possibly some of my writing. But then, I got a call from someone interested in joining an Asperger's group I'm in saying that his son was having trouble accepting his Asperger's diagnosis and needed some support. I tried to think of the kind of website that I would have loved to find when I was scouring the web for AS resources two years ago, the kind of site that a newly diagnosed person can read and feel reassured by, or at least see images of him or herself in, which is to me the most important thing. The site doesn't have absolutely everything that I would love have on it, and I will be adding new things as I can, but I feel this is a very good beginning. It features an introduction, my book list, all of the writing I have done on AS, a Famous Aspies list, tips about college, links and information about support groups, and even some Aspie humor.
Please tell me what you think!! ! I want some feedback and some eyeballs on the site! Also, please feel free to sign the guestbook.
The address is www.freewebs.com/aspiefrommaine
Pass it on to anyone who you think may be interested! If you have a website feel free to link to it!
Some of the formatting is messed up and it wont let me fixed it.
