When i was 15 i had alot of problems and my mum took me to a few different psychologists and my mum said a have aspergers
then i started reading about it and found this site and felt like i fitted here with people who are like me and i could relate to most things people said on here but today 7 years later my mum said that i wasnt actually officially diagnosed with anything and now i dont know where i belong because i really thought i finaly found a place where i belong even though its online now i dont know what to do because i definetly dont fit in with "normal" people and now i feel very sad for some reason. does anyone know what i should do?

If you feel you fit in then you fit in - that hasn't changed and I doubt anyone here is going to reject you because of a lack of diagnosis. take a look at the profiles of posters on here - at least 20% if not more are self-diagnosed - i.e. have no official diagnosis.

Of course if the psychologists you mother took you to suggested Aspergers, then it may be worth getting an official diagnosis if it puts your mind at ease. But it has to be because you personally need a diagnosis, and not because you want to justify being on here :)

At this point, I am also self-diagnosed. I have been for a few years, but new something was different in my wiring as long as I can remember. I am working toward an official diagnosis too, but regardless, I know what I am as you evidently do.

It may also be that she is telling you that because she feels that the diagnosis is a crutch. Just a couple days on here, I've seen many frustrated parents posts relating that ASD or AS is nothing more than a bologna diagnosis and everyone has some ASD tendencies. If you feel comfortable here and feel that the people get you and you get them. Stick around.

I am selfdianosed for several months , after a psychologist suggested it but said i was coping so i didnt need meds or a formal diagnosis,,I have lived in out skirts of the NT world for 54 years,, supported myself, raised a child.. now,, I dont feel i belong in either nt or aspie,, cant find aspies my age to socialize with and I dont know how to socialize with nts.. so I live in this limbo.

As one of the other posters noted, if you have the symptoms, and can relate to other aspies with an official diagnosis, and benefit from what we have to say, does anything else really matter?
