Just thought I'd share some good news for a change.

I went to a place near here (Doncaster, UK) called the 'Autism Information Centre' - it's been a very tiring day but boy was it worth it.

As a result of my visit I now have an advocate to look out for me. I'll be getting home visits to evaluate my personal needs. I'm getting help with applying for benefits (which TBH I had never even considered applying for ). And there are all kinds of additional therapy based things being offered to me for free.

It's such a feeling of relief to know that there are people out there ready and waiting to help me and my family.

I've also been roped in to volunteering to supply Art therapy to adults with autism, but thats good cause I enjoy teaching art. And I get a great feeling of self worth from helping people less fortunate than myself.

So all in all its been a great day.

That sounds like a really great place and I'm glad you had such a good day there. :) It's a shame I live very far away from Doncaster. If I'm ever around South Yorkshire any time soon I'll definitely have to pay it a visit

I think it might be just a Doncaster based thing (its part of doncaster council) but it might be worth seeing if there is something similar in your area. It might be that postcode lottery thing though, so I really couldn't say.

That's great.

You can get some help for yourself, and you get to help some others.

Art and music therapy, I like these a lot.

the same sort of service is run in most major towns but under different companies/organisations,its just a question of finding it,whirling mind coud try contacting the local council as they have lists of services available,or search on something like the NASs autism services database; http://www.autism.org.uk/directory.aspx

manchester and surrounding areas have a lot of resource services.
for example, the NAS has a big one operating from their awesome vicky road day centre in northenden, theres also ASGMA which is in the stretford part of manchester if remember correctly .

In case anyone in the Seattle area is interested, there's an Adult Autism Clinic at Univ. of Washington. Here's the link.
