When I was a child back in elementary school, I took speech therapy classes because I had speech problems. It lasted until towards the end of my elem. school years when my speech had improved. I still struggle sometimes with speech and how I talk to people, like sometimes mumbling and stuttering (though on the latter, my dad thinks I don't stutter but repeat certain words, which I disagree with him about this because I do really stutter!). It seems that when I mumble, only I can understand myself, but not other people who listen to me mumble when I talk. Has anyone of you struggle with speech problems by mumbling, stuttering, etc. when you talk to your family, friends, and loved ones?

I sometimes stutter a tiny bit if i'm nervois or anxious and I do mumble sometimes too. People have a hard time understanding me and it is rather frustrating.

I slur stutter, and lose co-ordination after a few drinks; I don't have to be drunk, but it can be a bit more obvious than I'd like it to be when I'm affected by alcohol.
I tend to mumble a bit, or talk too loud; I can have difficulty sometimes getting my volume right for the occasion.
Thankfully I have a very understanding wife who accepts me as I am.
My family don't so they're no longer part of my life.
I'd rather have a few close friends that accept and understand me than 900 friends on Facebook who I can't relate to.
I think I'm pretty typical for an Aspie.

I had speech therapy from around 4 1/2 years till the end of middle school. I tend to talk to fast and mumble a bit. I have to slow down sometimes so people can understand me. It gets frustrating a lot when people can't understand me.

I've stuttered, repeated the same word, or my mouth and throat will just freeze. I also have issues talking to fast (when I'm not failing at speaking altogether) and I have volume problems. I'll go from barely audible to borderline shouting, or so my co-workers say. I still am learning the difference. I work in a loud environment... sorry.

Although the bad part is, my little brother (diagnosed AS) loves the way I talk (i've adopted a lilt into my voice to help stop stuttering. It doesn't work) so he's started to stutter to be "like his cool big sister". I love that kid. If it weren't for him, I would have disowned my whole family years ago.

I also had speech problems as a young boy in school. I had to take speech therapy in school, mostly because I would slur my S's. Mumbling is another issue I have had all my life, and my parents use to tell me "STOP mumbling!" Now my wife tells me "STOP mumbling!" I never realize that I am mumbling though?

I am pretty much nonverbal. The very few times I do manage to say something it is fragmented, slurred and barely audible.

I don't have a wife, the rest all happended to me, I also never seem to speak loud enough, complants toward me that I speak too softly, except when I am in a place your suppost to be quiet like a library then I always get heck for talking too loud, when I get too excited or get on a monolouge this can happen aswell. As a child I was always too loud and I still have issues sometimes talking too fast for people to understand what I am saying. I still slur and mispronounce in almost every sentence I say.

I also slur and mispronounce words sometimes, and I also talked too loud when I was a kid. It's cool to know that I have other people with autism on WP that I can relate to on here that share the same things that are autism related issues that I have in my life! I'm also still single too, not that I'm trying to find love on here or anything like that!

I'm a baby talker naturally but the only person I'm allowed to talk like this around is my boyfriend. He's mostly non verbal and mumbles when he does talk. We understand each other though. When I was a kid I was punished mercilessly for baby talking. When I speak appropriately, I have had a progression over time of how I talk. As a child I just yelled constantly and said everything I thought of. I didn't know how to stop talking or regulate my voice. As I grew, I learned to alternate between long periods of quiet and periods of loud, constant talking. Then I met my spiritual mom, who did not utter a single word until after her 10th birthday. She taught me by example how to moderate my voice. Finally, I started recording myself and heard the sing song ridiculousness that my speech was and then I dropped into the quiet, rough, monotone that I use today in almost every setting. So in essence, I was my own speech therapist... my family was uninterested in getting me any real help because then they would've had to admit that I was different. However, I do lots of voices to mix it up or to make fun of people. And I'm still a repeater... but only when I think no one is listening. Yes, I still get embarrassed of the real me. But my real voice is and has always been baby talking. I wish I was allowed to speak like this in general, but at this point in my life, I save my real self for those who accept me.

I stutter when I'm anxious, I mumble because I am anxious as well. I only talk in one volume, regardless of the level of noise in my surrounding environment.
