Hi, I am applying for SSI, and noticed that my work history is needed. But I can't remember the names of most of the managers, I was only at most of my jobs no more than a few months, and I haven't worked in three years. Also I was wondering which form I need my doctor to fill out? I live in the US (TX).

I can't remember now what forms I needed to have the doctor fill out. I applied online and signed release forms so the state could get my medical file. It might be different in Texas.

A few things you should know about SSI:

* They initially reject almost everyone. The rejection rate is currently 80-90%. In my case I was rejected twice after an evaluation with an SSA contracted doctor was overwhelmingly in my favor. They don't care about your medical records or their own doctors reports, those people are there to pretend they do something and collect paychecks. Most people who do get it are approved at the court level after the initial 2 rejections.

* Be prepared to fill out the same crap paper work over and over. The system is designed to make you wait as long as possible. I have been going through this process for 21 months now. Right now I have been waiting 5 weeks for the court decision. If (when) I get approved I think I still need to make an appointment at the local office to determine how much I will get. Have no idea how long I will have to wait for that. So expect 1-2 years.

* The most important thing is don't get depressed or discouraged by the rejection letters, it's part of the game. Those cock suckers stretch it out as long as they can hoping you will either die or give up. Don't give up (and/or die).

I don't want to scare you away from applying, I just want you to know what to expect. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor to help you with answering the questions on those forms. Make sure you keep every letter and document throughout the process. Best of luck.

Your post gives me hope because that is honestly easier than me trying to get my foot in the door at some workplace.

I initially applied back in January and was denied once (in April.) I appealed, and was accepted this month. From what I can tell, my experience is different than most. I didn't have an official diagnosis, had a similar work history to the OP, and hadn't seen a therapist in three years. What Rascal77s said is basically what I was told by several people.

The doctor I was sent to see was pretty much a joke. He spent 30 minutes with me, didn't listen to a word I said, and (I assume) said there was nothing wrong with me even though I was stimming and crying intensely in the waiting room and through the whole appointment because I was so anxious about leaving my house, because I was denied a few weeks after the appointment.

The second time around, I had to fill out all of the same paperwork again and wait some more. They give your case to a new person when you appeal, so maybe the person I got was aware of what my symptoms meant beyond being seen on paper, because I was approved.

What really helped me was getting a case worker or someone to help me through the process. An employee at my local DSHS office walked me through everything and was there to answer any questions that I had. I don't live in Texas though, so I don't know if things work differently there.

Good luck!

I was rejected the first time. I then went through a lawyer and got approved on the second try. I had to wait like a full year.
