I'm Building a List of Autism FAQs - "Frequently Asked Questions". Most of the ones I have so far are along the lines of:

  • "Do I have Autism?"
  • "Are Autism and {Down Syndrome | Schizophrenia | Sociopathy} the same?"
  • "Is Autism contagious?"
  • "What causes Autism?"
  • "What cures Autism?"
... and so forth. Please add your questions here, or add the questions that you are most frequently asked (even if it's something like, "What is wrong with you?").

Eventually, I'll ask the mods to post the list as an up-to-date "Sticky" for everyone to review.

Thank you,

Fnord

"How is (insert ASD) diagnosed?", not just relating to requests for unofficial DXs, but also for those who have received unprofessional treatment from professionals (Unfortunately, it does happen).

"Does bullying cause autism?"

"Is autism hereditary?"

"Can someone with autism have a normal life?"

"Is autism man's natural evolutionary advancement?"

"Why do some people with autism not want a cure?"

"What kind of jobs are good for people with autism?"

"What are the different levels of autism?"

"Can I become autistic later in life?"

"What famous people have autism?"

"Are there TV shows or films that accurately portray autism?"

"What do autistic people do for fun?"

"Do folks with autism believe in God?"

"Is there an autism movement similar to Gay Pride or the NAACP?"

"Do people with autism have other issues like depression, anxiety and schizophrenia?"

Ganondox has written an FAQ post, linked in his signature: https://www.wrongplanet.net/postt186115.htm I think it's a very good one and it would be better to expand it (if necessary) than to start a brand new one.

Not necessarily FMX. When you’re searching the net for information multiple sets of the same FAQ are not useful. But different FAQ's written by different people have different focuses and different depths of information.

Thanks for the input.

Rather than re-invent an entire FAQ list, I may just take what comes in, reformat it to match Ganondox's post, discard the duplicates, and submit the results for inclusion.

Thanks again!

"All are autistic people good with computers?"
"Should I say 'autistic person' or 'person with autism'?"
"What are the chances that I will pass my autism unto my children?"
"My sibling/parent/cousin/uncle is autistic; what are the chances that my children will be autistic?"
"Does autism really split up marriages/families?" [You can thank Autism Speaks for this one]

"Can animals have autism?"
"What kind of schools do autistic people go to?"

I think an introduction statement with brief history, the concept of a spectrum condition and process of diagnosis, covering online tests and requests along the lines of 'Do you think 'X' is an aspie because they do A, B and C?'.

Ganondox thread has some good information, and Agent Palpatine is considering the aspie wiki concept too. These subjects could be combined to give the new site a front page and good base information?

I like your idea of incorporating the FAQ into the wiki, neilson.

A few more ideas:
"Can people with autism be good parents?"
"Can you get SSI/SSDI/disability payments for being autistic?"
"Is autism a disability?"
"If some people with Asperger's/HFA can work and live independently, then why are they considered autistic/disabled at all?"
"Can autistic people drive?"
"What accommodations should I ask for on my child's IEP?"
"Do autistic people have an imagination?"
"Why do many autistic people dislike Autism Speaks?"
"What autism charities/organizations should I support?"
"Is autism over-diagnosed?"
"Why are there so many more people diagnosed with autism now than in the past?"
"Why is the puzzle piece associated with autism?"
"Why is the rainbow infinity sign sometimes associated with Asperger's?"
"Is it 'Aspergers' or 'Asperger's'?"
"How do you pronounce 'Asperger'?"
"Why is it called autism/Asperger's?"
"Do all autistic people regress?"
"Does autism shorten one's life span?"

That would work on my side.
