Does anyone else cover there ears and talk or make noises? Or in the shower, covering your ears while the water is pouring on your head?

Yes. I also like to rapidly press and release the tragus giving my brain the impression of stobe sound.

I only do the covering ears thing when I am wearing headphones and I want to hear music better or when I don't want to hear certain or too much noise.

I did this as a child doing the strobe sound by placing my palms on my ears and removing them in a repetitive motion. It gave me a huge rush, every time.

I have seen videos of one autistic kid covering his ear as a stim...have always wondered about it.

I have vague memories of doing this as a kid. I still catch myself doing it sometimes.

I often cover my ears because the surroundings are TOO LOUD! As like yesterday, when Barry was there with his cough and constant shouting. Some sounds can be painful to people like us.

He would do it though was hearing impaired...guessing sensory related

I always cover my ears when I hear a very high sound, sometimes scream.
Covering my ears for sensory stimulation -not much...calm -sometimes.

I do this in anticipation of loud noises. It's just an automatic response, especially if I drop or bump into something

I've done that sometimes...it's an interesting sensation.

I tend to sing to myself when I feel uneasy in loud, boisterous crowds of people. It's sort of a part of the "encapsulation" thing I do when I'm in an uncomfortable or boring situation.

i still work a lot to not be in denial about my as/d stuff anymore .. trying to acknowledge and accept or even embrace ever more of what i now feel is real me ..

i need to stim a lot it turns out .. and my standard stim is curling up like a foetus and rocking and covering my ears and eyes and rubbing the outer ears to make a loud swishing noise inside my head ..

to me this generally works like a fix of some pleasant drug, i guess .. i mean i'm almost always turned from feeling lost and confused into feeling relaxed and comfortable and focused .. and to my mind the rubbing of the ears and the internal swishing and swoshing noises are maybe the key part ..

and further .. my guess was always that it reminds deep me of being in the womb .. hearing nothing but blood swooshing .. btw, also a noise used a lot in African traditional music (for instance by bead-covered gourds) and to my mind what one will make with a hi-hat when playing the drums .. a constant ongoing swish-swosh that soothes and entrances the soul .. iow: trance-magic!
