How do you get rid of a lisp?
I made the mistake of recording myself today, I knew I had a lisp I just had no idea how bad it really is, I was nearly brought to tears hearing my own voice lisp so badly. I had speech therapy at school as a child and I think it helped some and I think my lisp got worse in my young teens, I don't really remember what we did other then I still have issues with certin sounds like "S" in preticular. I honestly feel like never talking again or purposely avoiding certin words/sounds however that is not that a very practical idea, I really understand now why people are always having to ask me to repete things to clairify. I am fine with being monotone and having an aspie accent, both I have. So the question is does anyone know how to treat or fix this issue or have ideas?
I found this: Speech Therapy Exercises for a Lisp

Yes I do have an idea how to fix this, assuming it is not caused by physical issues.
Annunciation and word sound formation is ultimately controlled by the brain. It's an automated program that you developed long ago with only slight modifications over the years. For a complete rebuild/update of your speaking program you need information and experience.
You have both right now. You've had the speech therapy so all that info is locked away in your brain somewhere. You've had many years of speaking and listening.
I can show you how to update your speaking program. If you really mean it...
You asked and you can find it here. StabilizingAutism/unsolicited-advice
You can find what it can do here. What PAR can do
And
If you're really, really interested you can get a jump-start on a free session here. StabilizingAutism/free-first-session
Once you watch that (tedious) clip, the rest is easy peasy, takes not much time, and you will have this problem resolved.
I'd recommend relistening to your recording again as painful as it may be. I'd recommend recording yourself some more and listen to that too, give your brain some practice listening to the difference between what you hear when you talk and what really comes out. Try to get about an hour of listening time.
When you've done that AND watched the clip, shoot me an email to [email protected] explain your situation and/or reference this post with a link. I'll make you a custom program that will shakeup and upgrade your automated speaking program.
Listen to that and viola, in a day or so rerecord yourself and we'll go from there.
I'll do this for free if you promise to remember Stabilizing Autism Project when you become rich and famous. =)
