I've been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder, Depression, Anger Issues, Social Phobia, ADHD, & OCD at different points in my life & none of them felt like they "fit." I recently started watching Parenthood on Netflix & couldn't believe the similarities between Max & myself as a child. There was an episode when he had a particular melt down & it all just kind of clicked...I came home & started to do some research, I couldn't believe how everything pertained to me. I discussed it with my husband & parents who all agreed with me. I feel so much relief that I'm not a lost cause, I never understood my compulsion for schedules, obsession with certain socks, & my meltdowns to name just a mere few of my many, many strange "quirks." I have an appointment tomorrow morning with a counselor but I'm a little worried about receiving an actual Asperger's Diagnoses...will this go on some kind of record if a background check is run on me, will it prevent me from getting a job in the future? WIll I be denied certain health insurance? Will I have to disclose it to my current employer? I feel like I need this diagnosis because I've always felt so out of place & odd, I want to learn to work through some of my social problems as well as my meltdowns & don't know how to do that without the help of a professional. Any advice?

You'd need to let people know in which country you live to tell what the laws are re disclosure.

Anyway having a diagnosis can't be worse for your career prospects than experiencing angry outbursts already would be.

Sorry about that...I'm in the US. My outbursts aren't anything that's affecting me at work, it's more in my personal life with my husband unfortunately & I just can't seem to get a hold on them. I am very easily annoyed & lose patience quickly.

I've really been struggling at my new job due to not being able to meet deadlines & take accurate notes. I just worry about a diagnosis following me around. I really want to learn how to deal with this but I'm not sure if that's possible without a diagnosis & professional help.
