Did you watch cartoons later in life than average?

I think this is definitely an Aspergers thing, not so much the inclination in and of itself to watch cartoons, but to fill a void through lack of friends.
This is the only place where I could make this "confession", but I continued to watch Saturday morning cartoons throughout high school. Even before that, in my pre-teens, I would watch cartoons that other kids thought were for "little kids" and uncool, stuff that should have been 4-5 years behind me. At 12 years old, I memorized every episode of "Inspector Gadget" in sequence. Transformers was huge for me too at age 12 (maybe that's not so much of an age gap though). I watched "My Pet Monster" at 14 regularly, and TMNT at ages 16-17 regularly. I watched some cartoons that were based on video game characters as well.

A routine component was behind much of my obsessive cartoon-watching too, mostly in earlier years like at 10 years old I would absolutely have to watch my favourite cartoons at the same time with the same cereal, and dreaded when/if my mom wanted me to go to some community activity in the morning. She thought I should have "outgrown these by now" but didn't want to. This spawned a few visits to child psychologists who were clueless (after all, it was the 1980s).

It wasn't much intellectual stimulation compared to other pursuits I took up, and I discarded cartoons almost completely by 18 (except for the Simpsons) but as I mentioned, it filled the void of lack of friendship due to being ostracized. And I made darn sure that I never told anybody about my like of cartoons beyond what they deemed to be age-appropriate years - that would have subjected me to even more ridicule.

But Hey, I've been watching episodes of Family Guy and South Park in my adult years...but they don't count :D

Every so often I like the occasional Underdog and Rocky and Bullwinkle. Also, all those Tex Avery cartoons where characters' eyes popped out usually make me laugh.

Well mostly older cartoons. i think cartoons today are way worse quality.

Than those in the 80's and 90's. they were more rough and dared to try stuff.

When i see stuff like spounge bob and stuff like that, just feels like my last brain cells are leaving. I dont understand humor and cartoons like that. Would be more fun to watch paint dry.

Give me Heman, Inspector gadget. Turtles. Trapdoor, Scooby Doo. Transformers and such.

Kids of today are really missing out, with the abysmal cartoons they make these days.

I'm 21 and I still watch some of the cartoons I enjoyed as a kid occasionally - like The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Dragontales. I also like 80s cartoons, like Pound Puppies (and I gotta tell ya, the first season of 1980s Pound Puppies was downright hilarious in some episodes) Gen 1 My Little Pony, and of course, I watch Gen 4 MLP sometimes, too. :D I also like the really old school cartoons from the 1930s and 40s, like Popeye, Betty Boop, and Fleischer cartoons. When I was a teenager, I really liked the Craig McCracken cartoon Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, too.

I watch episodes of South Park online, and I like Family Guy and King of the Hill, too, but I don't get to watch the latter two as much as I used to.

My stepfather didn't like how I was still watching PBS Kids cartoons/shows well into my teens, but I actually think they did me some good...PBS shows like Dragontales, Sesame Street, and Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series sort of taught me social skills in the areas which I faltered. Even as an adult, I find the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic helpful in this regard. If any future kid of mine wants to watch cartoons well past a certain age, well then, I won't stand in their way. :)

I used to watch Dora the Explorer even though I was 10 when it first aired. I don't remember how long I watched it for. I also watched a lot of kiddie stuff when I was a teenager, with the excuse that I just happened to be in the same room as my niece and nephew who were toddlers at the time. At the age of 21, I had a brief obsession with MLP: FiM. During that time I also checked out other cartoons that were/are popular, including Adventure Time and Regular Show, and animated movies like Brave and How to Train Your Dragon.

I wanted so badly to have animated series/movies as my special interest because I believed that it would help keep my inner child alive. But unfortunately, I found none of the cartoons to be mentally stimulating or "deep" enough for me, even the ones that were critically-acclaimed.

It was then that I realized that I was starting to "grow up" and had to "put away childish things".

,,,Well, maybe not all childish things. Even though I have reluctantly outgrown cartoons, I still harbor a deep love for plush toys, and use sewing in order to make my own. It's a great way to express myself creatively. :D

I watch them on occasion, although, the way Cartoon Network has been revisioning a lot of their older products makes me cringe in horror.

I still watch the older shows I grew up with like Inspector gadget now and then and watch the Mysteries of Alfred Hedgehog as well as a few others and have a major intrest in Katie and Orbie. Quality programming is quality programming, simple as that and if its a kids cartoon then so be it.

I watch Astroboy and Transformers once in a blue moon when I'm feeling nostalgic. I used to love the Smurfs when I was a kid and was really pissed off when they took it off the air. I also used to watch The Flintstones everyday when I was at home for lunch from school. I watched a lot of regular and more adult oriented shows too. I wasn't ever particularly focused on cartoons, and the interest in them pretty much died by the time I was in Junior High or maybe even before.

I was always more interested in entertainment aimed at older audiences. Even in music. I didn't have and didn't want children's records. I liked pop. Especially Micheal jackson. By Grade 3 I was already into Hip Hop and was listening to LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, Run DMC and by grade 5 I was already into more hardcore stuff like Public Enemy, Ice T, NWA. Thinking about it I was way too young to listen to a lot of that, but that's where my head was at. I was able to get my hands on it cause I preferred to hang about the older kids and I got my tapes dubbed from them.

I like watching cartoons too. I watch DragonballZ, gundam wing, amazing world of gum ball, and many cartoons from the 80s and 90s on YouTube. Bonkers and Talespin, and Ducktales and Darkwing Duck and Scooby Doo are more.

Katie and Orbie was such a cute show!! I'd totally watch it now, if it were still on TV. :?

I'm 45 years old, and STILL enjoy watching the oldest episodes of Scooby Doo! I still think cartoons are calming, and often make me laugh, as well. :)

I'm 38 and see no reason not to watch cartoons. I prefer Japanese anime to American cartoons.
