For some reason, I am finding it terribly difficult making the transition into adulthood. I am currently 25 and still feel just as I did in middle school. I still am interested all of the things I was into back then: PC/console gaming, anime, tv shows, and movies. I tend to obsess over these interests as well, just as I had when I was younger. I have a few longtime friends that are still into these things, but not to the extent that I am.

I honestly don't know how to grow up! Anyone else feel like this?

I'm not sure what is wrong with that, exactly. So long as you take care of your needs, I don't see any reason why you can't continue to do those things until the day you die, provided they still interest you.

My mom always likes to describe me as "childlike". I still love anime and plushies, and my imaginary friends are everything to me. I've also been told that it's not just my interests but also the way that I behave and conduct myself in social situations that causes me to come across as childlike to others. I have noticed a very common tendency for other females to behave in a nurturing way towards me or treat me like an actual child even if they are around my age or younger. My mom says that they "handle [me] with kid gloves" because they can tell that I am very sensitive and they do not want to hurt my feelings.

I am almost twice your age and still act a lot of times like I am 12 or under. I do my best to be good with the responsibilities that I need to do like paying the bills and keeping a house or doing my work and stuff like that. You need to do those things as an adult and if you can't you need to get someone to help you. But as far as childlike interests like games or stuffed animals or things like that or even if, like me, your brain actually understands and processes certain things as a young child, that is fine. You can live a responsible adult life and do your job and pay your rent and still play with dolls and kid's video games. Like for me there may be parts of your brain that are not able to mature past a certain point and as long as it does not bother you and you can function well enough or have help to function in this society and be responsible, I think is it important to acknowledge that part of the brain and allow it to be a kid. Otherwise you deny yourself part of who you are and it can really stress and hinder you.

But actually that is one of the things I love about having Autism. I get to experience some things from a very young age level and there is a kind of magical quality about that. It is a shame that many people lose that as they get older.

the kitty combined with throw up is now triggering the sounds of kitty throw up in head; eg "uhh-keh uhhh-keh uhhh-keh uhhh-keh uhhh-keh uhhh-keh uhhh-keh uhhh-keh....uurrrr...kkk >>walks off to fill up the purged belly with more food from their human<<".

Now I have the sound as well in my head, you wrote it perfectly.
At the moment my cats (I have 3, the one in the avatar is one of mine) throw up a lot, as it is hot outside and they lose a lot of hair and slick it in and then throw it up again.
Then they make a "long neck" and the sound you are describing.
I visited people who have 10 cats for a couple days in Spain and the cats were too throwing up the whole time :D

I'm in the same spot, to a degree; I am 26 and still living at home, with a little bit of hope that I may move out.

Yes.

It's due to autism/aspergers.

I theorize it's due to reduced social understanding/development. The more I think along social lines, the more "grown up" I appear. For autistics it's just as natural to be as focused on things as on people. We have to force our focus on people in order to "grow up"/mature.

But if you are like me you have to convert your academic capital into social capital by making coping with life an "academic project".

That's interesting, I hadn't thought of it like that. But yes, I think you're right. I'm 26 and still living at home too, and have never been (or wanted to be) in a relationship which I think a lot of people perceive as a major part of being an 'adult'. I'm trying to be more people-focussed, but I work with children which probably doesn't help but that's what I feel most comfortable doing.

I'm almost 30 now. I probably feel and act more like 16/18. Catch myself often forgetting my real age. I seem to be stuck.

Often what reminds me is when I'm out shopping and people like say sir or tell their kids like. Move out of the man's way.

I don't think I'll ever be able to transision and maybe that is fine. I'm not really sure.

I always get these strange look from kids. Just the other day as well. It's like the see right through me. Maybe it's because I act more like them as opposed to how one of almost 30 should.

To heck with "growing up."

I find it much more fun to be a kid now that I'm 30.

:P

Growing up is the first move towards growing old. Proceed w/ caution.

I'm not 100% sure what it means to "grow up".
I have a grown up job to which I wear grown up clothes and (when I'm with clients) I talk like a grown up.
When I'm at home I wear loose-fitting clothing, watch cartoons and play video games. My speech is mostly informal (even at work when not with clients). Many of my friends forget I'm almost 30.

Life is about balance. Grow up enough to function, then enjoy the rest of your life however you see fit!
