I like to just sit there and think about things. No TV on, no music playing, just silence.

I usually like to sit in my living room and think, or lay on my bed and just stare out the window and think. It gives me comfort and I relax.

But every time someone catches me thinking, they ask "what are you doing?!" in a weird tone. and they usually ask me to put the TV on or something... (I'm talking about my family)
They think I'm weird and that I should constantly be doing something!-_-
Does anyone else do this?

I can stare at ANYTHING and just think for hours.

No, I don't do it indoors, but when I go bush-walking I love to just stop for a while, sit or lie down and think while enjoying the serenity and sounds of nature. There's nobody around to tell me to do something either

I don't think the indoors is silent enough for me to sit and think in, i.e. I'm surrounded by the noise of clutter and man-made things, and real noises like cars driving past or the refrigerator buzzing. I think it's great that you can do it though.

Oh the outdoors are even better of course:)

It's just that it's soooo hot in phoenix that it's almost impossible to go outside. So I kinda HAVE to be in my apartment:/

I do that too. When I was a kid, my parents didn't like me laying around doing nothing, which is what they called it.

I used to be able to do this as a kid. After discovering alcohol in adulthood I find my attention seems to slip nowadays if I sit and do nothing.

I can sit and daydream for quite a while, very easily!
About thinking- um, what's that? Just kidding!

When I am outdoors especially in nature I can stare at the colors of the landscape for hours. I don't know if I am thinking all the time sometimes I think other times I just stare and get lost and absorbed in the richness of the colors. When I was little I lived in Texas for a couple of years and at school at recess every day I would climb to the top of the bars, we had this bars that you could climb, and I would sit on the highest one and spend the entire recess hour staring at the desert mountains. It was awesome. Now I love to go to the lake and I can stare at the grass and the flowers and the water and trees and sometimes I do quite a bit of thinking as well. I can stare at the sky and clouds too. I love that. It is so soothing.

Nothing's wrong with it. My mom does this all the time and she's a pretty normal person otherwise. She does have some OCD personality thing, probably, but it doesn't impact her life majorly. I do this, too, especially when attempting to transition from one activity to another. I wish I could do it more, just be there and daydream, but I'm constantly pushing myself to do stuff. :(

Yes, I do this for several hours nearly everyday. It's not so much daydreaming as very high powered thinking.
I've more data in my head than I know what to do with, and I find this power analysis/creative-linking -relaxing and energizing -if that makes sense. After a few hours I'm leaping with energy.
Most people just go ahead and consider me lazy because of this, even though I completely (spastically?) out work them when we are doing things.
I'm also afflicted with a rotating circadian rhythm and hypersomnia, so I try to not feel too badly from the harassment I get for it.
It works for me. =)

I don't think there's anything wrong with what you do. Other people's thinking it's weird might be making you feel you are weird and feel you shouldn't be doing it. But you shouldn't let others change your way because you are not doing any harm to yourself or anyone else. I think it's a nice way to spend time.

I myself tend to do a bit of that, too, but in my case my pessimistic mind sometimes lead me to negative thoughts and that can be stressful. Also my OCD sometimes makes me have to repeat the same words/phrases many times in my head and makes it stressful. So although I like sitting and thinking, sometimes I have to try to stop it. I also love silence. TV, radio, music etc irritate me.

I get this sometimes when I pace. Because I'm pacing people will think I'm anxious or that something is wrong with me (like they think I'm upset/annoyed maybe) but I'm usually not.. just I'd have started thinking about something and I'll automatically pace.. it helps me think/visualize. Sometimes it's done if i'm anxious just mostly not. Being interrupted is really annoying especially when someone assumes something is wrong. I do this sometimes long enough to realise I badly need a cigarette so I guess I can do it for an hour but I know I've done it longer in the past when I've really wanted to solve a problem.

Your family know you have Aspergers right? Cause it kinda seems like they're disturbed by this or something from what you said.

When I'm attempting to meditate, it sometimes turns into what you described.

Nothing wrong with either one. :) Sometimes, it is important to just "be" rather than "do." Today's society has really lost sight of that, sadly enough.
