That would make you come off worse than if you didn't go.

I hate family get togethers...especially at restaurants! I usually don't go because I just can't handle it. I've often thought of taking my laptop with me but I've never actually done it. I do agree though, that it would probably offend them more than if you didn't go.

I also dislike eating out at sit down resturants. I'm araid that I might do something socialy unacceptable and be thrown out before I even can have a chance to eat. :( Especialy if my coprolalia were to be triggered.

a book might be a smidge more discrete... as you could at least just put your finger as a place holder and interact moreso than you could while trying to play with a videogame.

Yeah, but then you're leaving yourself open to questions about what you're reading, in addition to the fact that they might urge you to put it down out of politeness, or try to involve you more in the conversation since it's more apparent you're not taking part.

Thank you for writing that word: coprolalia, I learned something new.

I once had an aquantence that would yell out curse words or get stuck on one word for a while (usually a curse word), he never mentioned coprolalia, just Tourettes.

It never bothered any of us, or him where we were at (a pool hall) he would just drink another beer and it would go away.

I like family gatherings, they have had 38 years to come to terms with my little peculiarities, everyone is an individual and they all realize that, I guess I am extremely lucky.

i miss my family something terrible

My mom didnt like the laptop idea.. as a drink could get spilled and it ruined... but she had told me i could bring a handheld game.

BUT at the last minute my brother told everyone he wasnt feeling well and the whole thing is postphoned for another day.

No, I've never had that problem. However, I bring a portable DVD player on my school bus every time I go. Me and all the other kids in the back have a great time watching Space Jam in the back! lol
