(Courtesy of the NAS) The NAS leads national and international initiatives, including campaigning and lobbying the government, providing a strong voice for autism. Work includes involvement in many areas in order to help autistic people live their lives with as much independence as possible, as well as raising awareness.


• 40% of all autistic children wait more than three years for a clear diagnosis.


• 4 in 10 GPs do not have enough information about autism to make an informed assessment.


• Autistic children are 20 times more likely to be excluded from school than other children. The main reason being that the school was unable to cope with the child.


• 49% of autistic adults are still living at home with their parents. Although 70% of parents felt that their son or daughter would be able to live independently without support.


• 65% of these autistic adults had not had an official care assessment and are therefore unlikely to be known by any supporting bodies.


• Only 1 in 4 local authorities are sufficiently preparing to meet the needs of autistic people when their parents are too old to cope or have died.


• Only 6% of autistic adults are in full-time paid employment.


• Only 20% of autistic adults are in any employment.


• Autistic adults say that finding a suitable job would improve their lives more than anything else.


• 21% of people with learning differences(including autism) surveyed had been subject to physical attacks in the past year.

No, I did watch it, the guy who was a painter and managed to get a job despite being Autistic............seeeee? He then proceeded to do various "things" with the the rich promiscous widow who hired him, boy did she make him earn that pay-cheque, it also transpired that she was bisexual when several of her lesbian lovers made an appearance, and.......uhm, no, not revealing anymore of the story unless this goes in the adult forum first........
