It's official, I finally have that piece of paper that says "299.00: Autism Spectrum Disorder" on it. I've been waiting for this for so long that it all feels sort of surreal. I can finally stop that annoying voice in the back of my head that says, "But you're not sure," every time I tell someone, "I have Asperger's." Now I am sure :D

I remember the feeling. Nothing really changes, but suddenly everything has a reason. Kinda like getting to see a behind the Sceans look at your own past.

Welcome home

(Mind you doctor who is cooler than Star Trek.) heh

Thanks Willard :) Joestenr, you're right, everything about my life and history is way clearer now that I know the odd things that happened really were abnormal and not just an exacerbation of normally deviant behaviour.

Congratulations! It's always nice when the medical community confirms what we know about ourselves.

Congratulations on your diagnosis, StarTrekker!

Hopefully I will have mine by the end of this year as well (already got an appointment). :D

It feels weird to say this, but I'm kinda jealous. (jealous of your confidence when telling people). I can't wait till I finally have an answer!

Congratulations!

When I got my diagnosis, a friend said, I think slightly mockingly, "why don't you frame it" and the thing is so important to me that I did.

It really does make sense out of the past in present in such a complete way. And it helps you to feel justified in being yourself--really a priceless thing,

Learning is one of my favorite things, and this is one of the most personally important things I have ever learned. I am sure it is for you, too. Enjoy it. :D

And I was serious about my comment. Isn't it a relief to get a real bonafide diagnosis? It makes sense of so much, both bad and good. Personally, I now love being an Aspie. I like having an odd brain. Since I only get one life, I'm happy I get to live it oddly. :D

I totally love this :D One of the reasons Frozen is my favourite movie right now, and my "mini-obsession" is because of the metaphorical similarity I see between Elsa's cryokinesis and autism.

Thanks for all the kind words you guys :) Jetbuilder and Sylvastor, I hope you guys have your answers soon!

JSBACHlover, yes, I too am very fond of my odd brain :)

In typical Aspie fashion of only considering myself, I need to bite the bullet.

Curious, what country are you in? I take it there is something special when you get a diagnosis in the UK?

I live in the U.S, so I got my diagnosis without needing a GP referral, but I had to pay for it myself. From what I've read on here, those in the U.K have to tell their GP why they think they have autism and try to get a referral to a specialist through them, which can be tricky for adults, but if you can manage it, you get it free through the NHS. Good luck, I hope you find what you need :)
