I was out on my bike yesterday morning, I'd been to my friends house and as I was in no rush to get home I thought I'd take the scenic route.

I was having a lovely time peddling away on such a beautiful day. the sun was shining and it seemed like the whole world was smiling with me.

Then it suddenly occurred to me. My life (no matter how insignificant I believe it to be) has meaning. I matter!

I matter because even the smallest amount of interaction with another human, (be it a nod or a smile) is actually contributing to humanity.

My life began in that moment.

I just wanted to share that anyway, so thanks for reading.

bb :D

You matter very much. Much more than you could ever know. That is an awesome realization. :)

Once I realised this, I asked myself- how can I optimise my methods of interaction to make the world better?

That's why I keep going back to my bikes. I've been mountain biking since I was 6!

If you can cheer someone up at least once a day, or once every two days, you aren't doing too bad.

Any chance of you answering my PM regarding a future meet-up, OP? ;)

You responded to one of my posts and said something that was meaningful to me, lifted some of my anxiety and made my day better. Yes, you do matter, and I'm glad you affected my life.

I couldn't agree more with what you say about how the smallest of things affects humanity. For a couple years now, I've been intentionally trying to have the courage to pay compliments to random people when I notice something I genuinely like. I typically do it when I'm at the checkout line in a grocery store, because it's a moment where that person is directly engaged with me... but sometimes I'll just say something randomly when someone's near me.

Like if the cashier has really pretty earrings, I'll let her know. Or if I overhear someone make a really good observation, I'll let them know. It's been good for me, because it helps my social anxiety, and it makes me feel good to get the positive reaction... and deep in my heart, I know that I'm affecting humanity in a positive way.
