I was wondering for Aspergers is it a normal feeling that even though I am 28 years old I feel as if I am middle school or high school? For example I hear some of the people I went to school with have 1 or more kids already, are managers of food places and other business settings, getting their own place and starting to settle down just basic adult stuff,I am here with really no interest at all in any of that stuff I am more concerned with my dad, dog, and special interests :?:

I sometimes feel the same. I'm typically very naive, socially immature and occasionally childish when compared to the majority of my peers and age-group. Sometimes I feel as though I'm 14 instead of 19. But I wouldn't attribute that solely to Asperger's in and of itself. Rather, I think it's more related to our experiences with socialization or perhaps even our lack of them. I'm not going to go into the whole nature vs nurture debate, but I think a degree of socialization can have a profound affect upon one's character and personal choices.

I'm 43, never married, no kids.

"adult" is just a silly game the NT's like to play.

The short answer: Yes! If you have Aspergers Syndrome it's most likely for that reason you feel that way.

I am an eternal child. No matter what physical age I am, I will always be a kid on the inside. I have no interest in work, creating a family, or other "adult" things... It makes no sense to me why "normal" people obsess about such things. to me, they are just a means to an end at best, and at worst, are a complete waste of time that could be better spent on my special interests.

Most people I get along with best are usually around 21-23. I STILL feel like I'm younger than that even though I am into decade #3. I just started dating about a year and a half ago and only moved out around that time too.

yeah I feel the same way, I am 19 I still feel about 15, its almost like time has jumped forward and I have been left behind.

I heard that one of my friends now drives and has a car, its shocking to me. don't know how they can just go out and get jobs go to university, its strange.

another thing is why do I need to live a ''calm'' and ''stress free'' life as much as possible? Is it a part of Aspergers to get nervous right away?

I'm 30 , married and have a child and I still don't feel like an adult. :D

Shrug, I wonder if it shows to others too. People are always asking about "my little brother", either that or the fact I can facially pass as a high school student.

I am an eternal child in the sense of seeing the world through naïve childlike lenses.

I totally agree with this. In my case I'm 28 and still feel in some ways like a teenager, and in some ways even younger. In my case, I learned how to drive and made it through college no problem, it was when I got to graduate school (which is intellectually like school, but socially like a job) that I really started to feel like time was moving forward without me.

Now that I didn't make it in grad school the first 2 tries, I'm starting to realize that I started to fall behind much earlier, it's just that in college I wasn't forced to think about it.

I'm 27 and I feel as though I'm like 8. Even though I work, it's hard to think of it as work. I still think that I'm going to school.
