Article while ostensibly about Daryl Hannah is really about Female Autism and the lack of understanding about it. Just don't read the article follow the links especially in the second half.

way to go, DH, raising awareness, especially attention given to general issues around female expression of ASpieness.

"One key difference between girls/women and boys/men with autism lies in the generally different social lives and social expectations of girls and boys."

Very true. I suspect they're right about girls/women being underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed because the symptoms manifest differently.

BBC recently had an article about this too. It ticked me off because it contained stuff that most of us have known for years as though it was fresh information just off the press, but let me see if I can find it on the archive since it's roughly on topic for the same theme.

Here it is:

Autism affects Male and Female Brains Differently (BBC, 9th August 2013)

I wonder how long though before this seeps through to the mainstream perception.
