tried it a year or so ago, didn't notice any difference. i suppose i did find it a little grounding but that's about all.

I think it is a placebo effect generator. This is not the same as completely ineffective. If you try it and it does something for you, great. It's a sort of power of suggestion or symbolic magic thing, though. Don't look to understand how it might work, or it will almost certainly not work.
