I know that a lot of peopel with AS are said to be hypersensitive, but what about sensory deficiencies? I've noticed that I have hearing loss, vision problems, not very sharp smell or taste, and my sense of touch is pretty jaded.

I am short sighted and rely on having to wear contact lenses/glasses all the time to see.

Other than wearing glasses, which I don't think counts as a sensory issue, I have none.

I don't think I have any sensory deficiencies. I do have trouble hearing if there's a lot of background noise going on.

Edit: Actually I'm very badly nearsighted if that counts.

I'm nearsighted enough to have to wear glasses, but the rest of my senses are sharp (and easily overloaded).

My son definitely has a less acute sense of smell than anybody else in the family.

One thing I've noticed is that most people can determine the source of a sound better than I can. I'm always in a situation where somebody is calling me but don't know where they are... It's kind of strange. I'm not sure whether that classifies as a hearing deficiency, but I definitely have it.

Near-sighted here too.

A lot of aspies being near-sighted makes sense to me, actually, because I think most of us probably spent a lot of time as kids either looking at a book or a screen. The growing eye adapts to the use to which it's put; in other words, if you're only using it to the range required to see a page or TV/computer screen, then the eye muscle grows to that limit and no further. If, on the other hand, you spend lots of time outdoors scouting the horizon and exploring nature near and far, the eye muscle development will reflect that.

My speech recognition isn't very good. I'm nearsighted, but it can be corrected to better than 20/20.

near/far sighted and astigmatism are due to the shape of the eye, and not any nervous difference.
