Autistic Spectrum peeps are known for being obtuse when it comes to accepted social norms and when I came across this website

I thought it may be a good idea to invite discussion of what is normal vs what is creepy so that those of us who can't tell the difference can have a handy reference manual for the future.

I'm not creepy because I don't like bananas.

I think creepy people don't get off the elevator. They just stay in and go up and down until they are satisfied. Creepy people also lick their ice cream. Creepy people look at other people's eyes when they are looking at something else (I sometimes do this on the train).

Most of these just like common sense to me. I doubt I'd personally make any of those mistakes. However, I'm not sure if I agree with this one:

If that's what they're into and both parties consent, I hardly see how it is inadvisable. Sure it could be considered creepy in some subjective sense, but really, who gives a f**k what people get off to so long as it's consented and nobody is harmed.

haha this reminds me of our conversation about eye contact. I think I could picture you doing this. :D

Honestly, I'm not sure that everyone who maintains eye contact while eating a banana are on autism spectrum.

And secondly, I think truly that there is no such thing as "normal". It is all relative.

This article is utterly facile.

I've been struggling with this problem of not seeming creepy all my life. The trouble is, some NTs will regard not making "proper" levels of eye contact, or not understanding the flow of a conversation as "creepy". I've seen having intense focus on one subject being defined as "creepy". Gods, when I was reading up on it I ran across a comment on "weird speech patterns" (odd prosody, anyone??! !).

To me, this is a source of endless frustration. I've learned many of the social rules about not acting creepy - anyone can learn the basic ones - but the ones that are left are now down to a list that is characteristic of the core criteria for a diagnosis of AS. I'm not saying all creeps are Aspies (a good many are male NT misogynistic a**eholes), but a lot of us are going to be wide open to accusations of being "creepy".

It's one reason why my already weak social confidence has collapsed over the last year or so.

Definition of "facile"?

If this were Spanish, it'd mean "easy", if spelled a little differently.

Is this another example of the U.S. and U.K. being "two countries separated by a common language"?

You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

It does mean easy, more or less, but in British English it has a disparaging sense, implying that the writing is oversimplistic, making the thing easier to understand than it really is.

What I was trying to get at is that the question of being creepy is, at least to a point, very subjective, and thus wide open to personal interpretation. Eating a banana while staring into someone's eyes is, at best, sexually suggestive and really not to be done with someone you are not already sexually intimate with (and I would be hesitant even then). This is easy to understand.

The whole question of what is "creepy" is much more complex.

I hope this makes more sense now.

I thought it was supposed to be humorous.
