So why is the Turnpike so darned ugly
The turnpike is not ugly...haven't you ever ridden on it between Pittsburgh and harrisburg? The northeast extension is just crap. Most of the beauty lies between the somereset exit and Carlisle.
Now don't get me wrong their other more interesting roads in PA like for example State Route 28. Between Pittsburgh and Kittaning it is major highway, but between Kittaning and Brookville (where it meets with interstate 80) The road is a really windly two lane road, that takes you through this little village towns like New Bethleham. Another good one is the highway that parelels the turnpike, US 30, where you get to ride through the scenary you see and believe me its a quite a ride! I've also been on a road where a covered bridge was still being used, I thought that was cool as hell. Another interesting route is i-579 shortest interstate, not more than 2 miles long, runs right through the middle of downtown Pittsburgh, goes over a bridge that crosses the alleghey river, and intersects with i-279. Have you ever been up in Tioga and Lycoming counties. Their is some desolent land up there, no more power lines or self towers, that is in northern PA. i can go on and on about all the routes in PA, after all maps are one of my interests
But anyways don't diss the turnpike, i love the turnpike.
