I was wondering what is the average life expectancy of people with Aspergers? because we are prone to stress, anxiety and over-analyzing/thinking I imagine it's less then your average NT

Has any research ever been done on it?

Yes it's 50 years old. Only half of aspies live to be over 50 but the ones that do live over 50, most will live to be at least 85

Might as well put this on my grave: Here lies [my real name], she had Asperger's.
I'm also left-handed and overweight. It's a wonder I've actually lived to be almost 40, even though I don't drink, smoke, or fool around.
But what's the point of living to old age if you become too frail and senile to enjoy it? Not that everyone does when they get old, but that's mainly because they've "lived" like Ned Flanders. And the way the world is now I don't know if I want to still even be here the next 10 years. :(

Autism makes no difference in life expectancy.

I'm hoping to live out my entire life with no major medical problems, then die painlessly and unexpectedly sometime before the medical problems of old age kick in. If something else doesn't kill me by then, I'll probably kill myself. Life isn't worth living without my health. Not to mention, I'd probably end up with crappy doctors making matters even worse.

While high suicide rates and the like technically lower the expectancy at least slightly, without any additional factors life expectancy is the same.

I never thought about this - but since we do freak out so much, if there is no difference in our life spans, does that not blow a hole in the stress will kill you theory?

I'm hoping to make to at least 150.

Probably around the same average life span of NT's which can vary from person to person. But at the most I'd say around 70-90 years of age at the most. Autism/Apsergers isn't a disease. I will probably live to be around 85-91 at the most, due to both my great grandparents making it that far in life.

Actually, I would be pretty surprised if the life expectancy wasn't noticeably lower for autistic people. We have more trouble holding jobs which means we're less likely to have good healthcare and things like that. It has been shown that married people and people with lots of social relationships tend to live longer than those who are socially isolated, and again autism makes it more likely that we will be lonely.

Autism isn't a tangible disease in the same way that, say, lung cancer is. It doesn't directly kill you, but the symptoms of it result in a lot of things that tend to be associated with decreased longevity.

Agree that this is probably true. It is stressful on many levels being a small minority, alien or however you want to view it.

Oh-then I guess that my father and my grandmother and my father's cousin and my mother's aunt and uncle all are exceptions? Aren't they a bit too many?

I think that the life expectancy of autistics is the same as that of NTs. I heard people say autistics live longer, others say that they live less. All bullsh*t to me.
