Does anyone else get excessively happy when doing some everyday thing as an aspie?

I really like to go grocery shopping and (I know it's weird...) and going through the car wash. I know they're odd but I find both really fun for some reason. I'm not obsessed with either nor are they special interests but I enjoy them. :D

I know we are creatures of habit and keep routines so we do a lot of the same things everyday, so are there any other aspies that do anything like this :?:

Every now and then, the little things can make me euphoric.

I clicked onto your post because the word "happiness" doesn't run across this forum often enough.

Then I read your post, and I know exactly what you mean.

I love a car that's filled with gasoline. It's just oddly reassuring to me. I also oddly enjoy my bedroom since it has been painted and somewhat decorated. I really honestly have to fight to leave that room now, I like it so much.

I'm just so pleased to read about this type of "happiness" with everyday things. I can't wait to see what other people write!

Actually was just thinking about writing on this subject yesterday. Could this be esp? (Serious question). Just about everything is intensely interesting and quite enjoyable to me. Sometimes even when I drop something I laugh because it is fun. The problem is things are so interesting it is bizarre. Yes, grocery shopping is very fun. I ride a razor scooter to and from the shops, and that is fun. Thinking is fun. Watching tv is very fun. When I feel intense anxiety, that is not fun, but I guess still kind of interesting. The problem is everything is too interesting. Books are very interesting...not fiction, but books with ideas. Shapes are interesting...arranging things, meaning decorating, is interesting. I think the mind craves and is grooving on variety. If there is not enough stimulation, then that is a problem. Suffering can ensue. So addicted to variety, and it is getting worse. Washing dishes was very fun fior most of my life--water play:-) but now that is getting old as is other such stuff, which is rasing some problems.

So how did a person who finds everything so interesting and fun have a life of so much suffering??? This story to be continued--ha ha...

I find utter enjoyment with just watching tv and sitting in my recliner and researching on my ipad. Like another poster wrote, I love when I have a full tank of gas, it makes me giddy. I also love the day after you go grocery shopping because there's ton of food options! I also find huge enjoyment with doing laundry, I will actually offer to do other peoples laundry because it makes so happy. And my favorite part about waking up in the morning is sipping a cup of coffee. Oh the simple things!

Yes!! I've always loved something about grocery shopping. I feel the significance in reading stories at bedtime with my daughter, and it's almost an out-of-body kind of joy. Writing checks, for some reason, I love. Not the money aspect, just the writing part. Turning lights off at night, locking doors.

How about that rush you feel when the postman or UPS man brings a package?

Cutting the grass. I'm the indoorsy type but I like doing this. The noise of the mower drowns out all the racket in my head and the grass smells great. Oh, and the vibrations are soothing.

Glad to hear it! I also love my bedroom (mainly because I can be alone though :D )

Sometimes people (NTs....and even us sometimes) take these kinds of things for granted and it's nice to have something to be happy over even when everything else would seem like ruins.

I was thinking about something like this today - how much fun it is to pick up a pencil and write a word. Any word, but how those letters transform the page. And then you can erase it and it's gone or change it and everything is different. Or like you can walk up to a person and utter some simple noise that miraculously means something and causes something to happen. Or you can go down the hall and get a cup of coffee and come back to your desk carrying it, but all you have this round thing with a big hole in it and miraculously it allows you to bring that liquid back without it leaking through your hands. If you think about it, nearly everything we touch all day long has amazing spellbinding qualities.

I love being in my bedroom after I've cleaned it. I like forward to it all day at school. And then it inevitably gets messy again...

Wow....this thread is a real eye-opener. You guys live in a world that is completely foreign to me, and I didn't realize how severe my depression (or anhedonia) must be after reading this thread. I marvel at how you are able to enjoy everyday things like washing dishes and doing laundry.

Just because I can't experience pleasure or euphoria doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the fact that you can experience this. My belief is that some brains have that pleasure capability while others don't.

I'm curious if any of you have ever been on psychiatric medication. I'm on meds and believe that years of using them has blunted me permanently.

I've never been on medication (been threatened to be put on it a few times though) but they say it's the little things in life that count.

Oooh I forgot another one though- driving on the highway. I love watching the lane lines go by and it's so calm to drive fast and observe the surroundings

  • New stationery. I love it so much I still have a writing pad I got in a Christmas stocking over 40 years ago, and almost every coloured pencil I ever owned. It's a bit harder to make myself actually use them, though - unfilled diaries, empty sketch blocks ... don't let the declutterbugs anywhere near it!!
  • The internet that keeps me in touch with imaginary friends (that's you lot) as well as real friends (via facebook), the sheer bloody luxury of conducting relationships in writing rather than in person.
  • Gazing at and photographing food growing in my garden. Later, bottling it. Then gazing at the bottled produce.
  • The smell of roses.
