I'll test as either INTJ or ENTJ, but my introvert-extrovert stat is always near the middle of the range.

There's a poll about this in the Stats forum: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt143067.html

Every time I take that test I score differently. I think most personality tests are mostly invalid unless you score extreme in one area consistently.

Truth be told, I don't trust those online tests. I've scored INTJ every time I take the online test for fun, but having studied the system extensively, I don't think that's it (I think I'm probably more like an xNFJ). The MBTI system is a template for personality type, though, not a prescription, and I Aspie traits tend to cloud personality cognition in general, making it harder for people on the spectrum to find their type out. But it can be easy for us to type as INTJ on tests, even though our cognition trends in a different direction.

I pegged the scales as extreme INTJ on a psychologist-administered test.

Yeah, most of us are INTJs. A lot of INFJs and ISTJs too.

BTW: Your score will change depending on your mood.

i'm an infj. (introverted intuitive feeling judgmental)

the test basically boils down to four questions.

do you recharge better by being with people or alone? (extroverted vs. introverted)

when you enter a new situation, do you just tend to get the big picture, or do you gather details and form a picture. (intuitive vs. sensate)

do you prefer to make decisions based on feelings and values or logic and probable outcome? (feeling vs. thinking)

do you like things organized and decided or spontaneous and open-ended? (judgmental vs. perceptive)

if you know yourself well, that's all the test you need.

there's a good book for lay people on the Meyers-briggs. it's called, "please understand me." by kiersy and bates.

Well, there's another dimension to it, too. Most people only look at the dichotomies, but Jung's theory focused on functions as an expression of cognition (eg, introverted intuition, which is dominant in INTJs and INFJs, and is notated as Ni. So then you start to look at the various types and realize that, for example, INTJ and INTP--they're only one letter apart but very different in cognition).
