Word Freeze
I have had a couple of experiences where I have had what I call word freeze. This phenomenon has happened to me in a very painful way twice the second time being yesterday. Both times were when people whom I loved dearly died very shockingly unexpected deaths and both times were when I was on the phone trying to talk to someone about it. I was on the phone and I knew what I wanted to say but the words were not able to come out. It was as if I could not formulate them. Each time it was accompanied but a feeling of being lost.
I also recently took an Alixithemia test that was posted on another thread and scored high on it in all categories save one. I wonder if this is related to the word freeze and if anyone else has this as well. When I first got the news both times I felt nothing. Than as the day progressed I ended up crying a lot especially if I heard certain songs on the radio or thought about certain things. And it wasn't like they were songs that the person liked or that the thoughts were about the person so much, some of the thoughts were even about me. But it got a bit confusing. I should probably duplicate some of this post in the thread about how I act when someone close to me dies.
But I was wondering if others of you have word freeze when you are emotionally overwhelmed and if anyone can give me more insight on that and why it would be much more pronounced on the phone than in written or face to face communication.

I´d say, that becoming speechless, emotionally blank and somewhat confused is a normal reaction to that kind of shock .
Classical reaction "by the book". It is no indication of Alexithymia, - but just a normal reaction to sudden news about the death of a beloved - and the following grief.
I am sorry for your loss.
