How did you do?

^ Where is the test though? There doesn't seem to be anything to click after the description of the "tool" to actually do a test.

This bit is interesting:

Quote:
People in the autistic spectrum often having difficulty in judging the emotional expressions of faces. To aid research in this area, a team led by Simon-Baron-Cohen at Cambridge University have compiled an emotion library of over 400 emotions.

8O They've got to be kidding! More than 400 emotions!? I can barely tell the difference between about ten emotions! I can recognise people's facial expressions for anger, happiness, sadness, surprise, curiosity and thats about all.

You click each face and you get a close up with a list of emotions. You have to pick the correct one.

I can't do it right now, I could barely process what the words meant.

There aren't any faces... The webpage must be showing differently for me.

I got about half right, but I did fluke a couple. Funny, the one they said was adoring just looked like he was being a prick. And the aggressive one looked like he was in pain. Have I made some mistakes!

I did one of these during an assessment, and did about as well there. She showed me one and I said “He's just standing there.” She said “Have another look.” I said “He's still just standing there.” She said “Try again.” I said “The same. Is that wrong is it?” She said “Oh, there's no wrong answers.” Why would she ask me three times if it wasn't wrong, or unexpected or whatever? Do they really expect you to believe that?

Is that second last one the girl from Dr Who?

This is weird. I just opened the link using IE instead of Firefox... and still no faces to click!

The applet's Adobe Flash Player. Maybe you need an update?

Thank you. :) That makes sense. Adobe flash is blocked on Firefox due to all the security bugs in it. I'll temporarily allow it to run.

I actually struggled with quite a few of the faces. I wish they had statistics on how well you went and how well others went, or do they??

Yes.

I got ten correct, though a couple were based on deduction because I'd already used my first choice for a different image (they said there were no duplicates), so I guess that means I could identify 8 correctly. There were a few that I had a lot of difficulty with and had to make around ten guesses before I got the correct answer!

as soon as i opened the "choose an emotion" button, I was like "eek! too many choices".... and I was right!

left to right, moving down as if reading, I'm going to post my initial impression/idea as if it hadn't been multiple choice. This won't spoil the answers for anyone, since I didn't get them all right... heck half my impressions weren't even options in the choices.

Row 1:
Disappointment__Furious__Disgusted__Aggressive__Surprised
Expectant__Guilty__Pleased__Condescending__Defiant**
Amused__??????__Accepting__Fear__??????
Surprise__Despair__Condescending__Relieved__Disgusted

As anyone who compares will see, I got some completely wrong, but usually was at least on the right side of positive/negative spectrum.

** The defiant girl was the most confusing to me - seemed to have three emotions in sequence during the clip. And defiant wasn't one of them :P
The two ????? ones I had no bleeding clue what they were trying to do. I'd be curious what a NT would answer to these clips, or if the actors just suck.

ps- BEGGING? is not an emotion. Puh-LEASE doctor headshrinker. Don't add more confusion to these tests than absolutely required!

Problem is, no one actually makes faces like these in real life. In real life, faces are more subtle.

That is how I am. I can always recognise if someone's expression is positive or negative but can't pin down their exact emotion with any accuracy except for the extreme emotions.

I don't generally have any trouble with reading facial expressions in day-to-day life, but every time I take these tests, I score surprisingly low.
