My eyes have always danced around a person's face rather than looking either away or at them. As soon as my eyes contact their eyes it only takes a fraction of a second before they begin dancing away from their eyes to anything else. And yet at the same time I am drawn to look back at their eyes like a magnet, only to look away again.

Generally, "normal" communication between two peeps involves
- listener looking at the talker;
- talker looking away from the listener;
- talker looking at the listener (esp. eye contact) when preparing to "hand-off" the conversation;
- listener looking away from the talker to indicate a desire to "interrupt" or take the talking ball.
(talker may often look at the listener (eye contact) at important parts of the convo as emphasis)

This is a small part of nonverbal communication, full time eye contact is not necessary and can mud-up interactive dialog.

Oh yeah, I look at their nose, or -all too often- stare at their mouth, partly for mood cues and partly to verify their words by "lip reading."

Oh yeah, for you girls, if a guy is talking to you and staring at your chest it's because of the above "rules" for cutting eye contact while operating the conversation ball.
He's not thinking about your boobz because most hetro men can't think about boobz and talk at the same time. It's just not possible.

I can make eye contact briefly enough to let them know I'm listening, but usually end up staring at a point behind the speaker and over their shoulder, or at the ground.

:lol: That's absolutely true. More than once I've offended a woman because she was rambling on about something and I was actually listening and trying to absorb what she was saying, only to realize that in order to avoid staring straight into her eyes, my gaze had drifted down and stopped at chest level, though I was so intent on listening, I was not even aware of looking at anything in particular, until she stopped talking and tried to cover up. 8O :oops:

Ironically, it always happens with people I would not have a sexual interest in under any circumstances. :?

I just don't look at their face at all.

I deal with it by avoiding people as much as I can.

Or if I must talk to them, I tend to turn my ear toward their mouth. It is actually me trying to focus on what they are saying rather than thinking how I hate being that close to the face of another human.

When talking, I stare at a random non-human point; the floor, ceiling, wall, object on a desk, etc. When listening, I watch their mouths, they never catch on.

If they are female just look at the boobs.... If they are male just look into their eyes until they look away. If that fails walk circles around them until they make a shark reference.

I'm just making fun off myself...
