Has anyone else found themselves so morally repulsed by the belief systems and ideology sold by the media that they have started to turn against it?

Other than a few documentaries and some very old favourites I have started to clear out my DVD collection and am even considering going as far as getting rid of my tv completely (I like the documentary channels so I have kept it for now).

I also avoid magazines (unless they are arts and crafts), newspapers, self help books (new age mumbo jumblo clap trap) and so on.

I also think i preferred life before it all went techno.

I tend to agree. Pride is another word for it.

That said, I'm constantly telling my kids how awesome they are, because I want them to own the great things about themselves, and not be put off when society tells them otherwise. Perhaps that makes me a hypocrite

YES. Absolutely. I hate the majority of mass media (more so as I've gotten older) and particularly the ideologies it promotes: that money buys you happiness, that you need more stuff, that your looks and house have to be "just so" for people to approve of you, that women shouldn't have opinions and should be allowed to be used as parts, and that there is nothing wrong with ruining the environment and making animals our slaves.

Unfortunately, most of the people I know don't even question any of this stuff. It is so sad.

Good for the posters above for choosing to think for themselves! ^

I saw an interview with an older reporter once. He was telling a story about a deceased friend of his who had been a fellow reporter. During the Nixon Kennedy election this reporter was assigned to travel with the Kennedy press group. He had sort of kidded his friend that he was stuck having to travel with the Nixon press entourage. His friend said, "I think I can do Jack more good there".

Back in the days when communism was seen as a bad thing, these people were called "fellow travelers". They see themselves as political activists rather than agents of a new religion. I call it a religion, secularism, the worship of man in general and self in particular. They say that secularism is the absence of religion and thus superior, but then all people feel their religion is truth and all others inferior.

Most of the so-called entertainment programs on TV are a series of sock puppet characters that lecture us on issues important to the advocates of this new religion such as women empowerment, wheelchair access, environmental activism, animal rights, homosexual endorsement, and a host of other politically correct issues that seem to grow daily.

As a Christian I see this mindless homogenization as part of a larger trend. I see a diabolical hand behind the push to move us from a family oriented life into the new age of a utopian socialist state.

I understand that many do not share my religious view. However, I think that most can see that music that is uninteresting and even irritating, entertainment that is a series of scolding lectures, and news that is nothing more than a political rant from the left is particularly unsatisfying to the media consumer.

We have been buying old movies and TV series so that we can watch what we like since it appears that what is current in media is only going to get worse.

I love old stuff, because it was real fiction. Both dramas and comedies mimicked real life. But life sucks so much now that people want something ridiculous and obviously fake, that is where we get these shows that are so stupid they're sickening

I'd just like to mention that I'm also a Christian, and I have nothing against gay people, women sticking up for themselves, protecting the environment or being nice to fluffy animals :)

I watch so little TV, that now when I do on the rare occasion get exposed to the brainwashing box, I can actually feel my brain going dead.

Media culture contributes nothing positive to mankind.

Of course.

It's:

-celebrity crap
-dating and marriage crap
-weight loss and fitness crap
-how to make money/job crap
-stupid opinion crap
-typical scare mongering crap

Seriously. Is that all there is to life for people?

Those are the only good messages expressed by the media anymore.

Yes, I completely agree that most of the messages expressed by the media these days are garbage. Especially hollywood movies. I stopped watching those years ago. (How many times are they going to make the exact same romantic comedy with different actors each time?)
I can't stand the messages that are expressed about women, like your worth is entirely wrapped up in your looks (It doesn't matter how smart you are, or how much you've contributed to society, if you're not supermodel gorgeous, you're worthless), you're supposed to try to be attractive for men every second of every day, you should sleep with a guy on the third date, and if you don't, there's something wrong with you, etc.
I hardly watch any TV anymore. I'll sometimes sit down and flip through the channels if I'm bored, but the only shows I set aside time to watch anymore are The Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who. I'll also watch American Dad, Futurama, Family Guy, and The Simpsons if I'm flipping through the channels and one of those shows are on. (I love how some of those shows make fun of everybody equally, even themselves sometimes, and challenge people's assumptions). But these days, I mostly like watching documentaries, or something meant for learning.

I found out a LONG time ago that few people want to have their comforting illusions shattered. Yet another reason why I was bullied so much. It's incredible the lack of critical thinking skills I see, especially among people I know who proudly boast that they are "skeptics". Yeah right

I have about 800 channels and to be honest, I only watch about 10 hours of TV a week and almost exclusively FOX Sunday night adult cartoons or hockey. I'm even more repulsed by radio commercials/programs though: what an insult to my intelligence!

Mass Media, Social Media... they all seem like such fits as things that would be embraced and evolved by NTs by their very nature, even though the original engineers often of these systems were likely created by autists in the first place.
