It's 18 months now I've suspected I am aspie. My shrink thinks I'm aspie; my aspie support worker thinks I am aspie; I'm in 2 queues for a formal dx.

At my age the system is in shock from all this new information - I'm right up my own ar*e and aspie traits are much more pronounced.

Anyone got book recommendations to help me process? I've just ordered a Gaus book thx to em-tsuj on another thread.

Read Tony Attwood: "A complete guide to aspergers syndrome"

And here is a link to a good page:

http://insideperspectives.wordpress.com/

It is about how aspergers feels from inside, told by aspies. Good to know, when you try to evaluate yourself (which many of us have done as first step).

Too diagnostic, child centred, and not addressing current processing probs...

It's a psuedo-encyclopedia compiled by someone with no credentials based on his own opinions and alleged "quotes" from anonymous strangers he's met online who may or may not actually be diagnosed with any form of autism, many of which are erroneous and have no legitimate clinical application to AS.

You'll learn as much here on WP, interacting with other members as you will from most books on the subject.

Your autistic 'traits' only seem more pronounced now because you're focusing on them and hyper-aware of things you've been unconsciously living with every day of your life.

Some of that sensation will pass after a while, but you'll likely retain a certain level of that sense awareness from now on. Once you know what's happening to you, it's virtually impossible to 'un-know.'

But you do get used to it - sort of

Ok, good to know, - but it would be nice to have some views from inside, as even good professional descriptions are rather abstract.
