The big one is Indonesian culture and history. I just came back from the big city with three library books on the subject (2 history books, one general book on culture and geography). I regularly read Indonesian novels (by Toer and Mangunwijaya among others), I read Indonesian news online daily, listen to the Indonesian pop charts, and check out TV programs on streaming site mivo.com. Where available, I'll visit museum expositions, dance and music performances, or film screenings that are Indonesia-themed.

Side interests include foreign languages, anime & manga, and popular music in general (with a current interest in 1990s new jack swing, soul, and urban contemporary, and pre-1965 charting music).

I have my main ones that I've had since childhood (i.e. Astronomy, Mathematics (Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra), Battlestar Galactica (Original series), all things Computer related, Harmonizing oscillations in music/sounds) but they tend to be long term, slower more relaxed interests. They're always there but not in the forefront all the time.

Then I have my more acute SI that can last from months to years. At the moment, I have Myna birds and ASDs - mainly Asperger's.

Also, I would say my interest in certain music could be classed as a Special Interest and certainly out of the ordinary. Of course I listen to other music but I've been listening to Stars of the Lid's Artificial Pine Arch Song for a few years now, several times a day. I know that's weird but I'm stuck on it. Before that song, there was another song I was stuck on for several years. Oh, my Aspie brain :D

Right now I am hyper focused on learning about AS since I was officially DXd just a few months ago. Just a year ago I really didn't even know anything about it at all. It was just something in the world that was not in my bubble.

My main thing is rocks and crystals. I just got an USB microscope and it opened up a whole new world for me playing and sorting my rocks along with taking pictures of them up close. A microscope like that can be a very dangerous thing in the hands of an Aspie LOL.

My biggest special interest always has been, and likely always will be, fictional characters. I always refer to them as my "imaginary friends", even though I rarely talk to them out loud. They're more like muses, because they inspire me to make arts and crafts based on them. They're also my security blanket; in other words, their presence in my mind brings me comfort because no matter what might happen in my real life, I know that they will always be there for me if and when I need them.

The specific characters I obsess over change on an almost daily basis, although some are recurring.

The way you feel about your fictional characters is how I feel about the crew of the starship Voyager; I imagine myself as part of the crew and muse over the things Janeway and friends do when they're not exploring the Delta Quadrant. I envy the closeness of the characters, they're like family, to each other and to me, except they actually like each other. If I could find a work environment like that when I grow up, I would never leave.

I do this, too! Most of my imaginary friends at the moment are from Cars 2. I also have original imaginary friends that are derivative of Cars 2, aka "Original Characters." I actually do talk to them, though, and they're more like friends than muses. But that doesn't stop me from drawing them and writing about them.

I'm also into GIANTmicrobes, which are basically plush germs. I really like the Ebola virus, the Food Poisoning, the Black Death, and the MRSA Superbug. I also make germs, specifically a cousin to the Ebola known as Marburg. It's really fuzzy and sweet, and apparently it likes pot pie.

I'm also into spiders and scorpions. I was trying to make one at one point, and got the abdomen done, but I can't figure out the rest of her. Oh, well. I'll get it eventually.

Hm... in general: music, video games, Astronomy, computers, Anime/manga. So I have at least 5 at the moment, music currently being my only Aspergian obsession.

Then I have many other special interests that branch out from those five general interests...
