I believe I was misdiagnosed with pdd as a 5 years old. After a year they realized I didn't have it and was labeled nvld. I believe that diagnosis was beyond wrong and it never helped me.

Now I am about to be 28 and have found out my whole life I have had ADHD and anxiety. I was also abused as a child and believe that is how I was over diagnosed so my mom could control/ abuse me. I also think backwards and when I don't care about something I zone out.

Nothing wrong with being on the spectrum but felt I was misdiagnosed which ruined my life

Go get a second opinion. Do you feel this diagnoses is affecting you, do you feel anxiety and ADHD will help you if you get those diagnoses instead? Will it change anything for you? Or just get a second opinion if you want answers.

And yes parents can get their kids mislabeled because they manipulated the doctor. There are parents out there who will try and put a label on their child and get a medical professional to do it by manipulating them or they exaggerate their child's behavior to manipulate.

I believe I was misdiagnosed as hyperactive as a child. Asperger syndrome wasn't commonly known about in the 1970s.

My mom's delusions that everything I said, did, thought and felt were due to Asperger's Syndrome are the reason I was diagnosed. The diagnosis ruined my life too because I feel like people assume (albeit wrongly) that I have no complex or intense feelings or thoughts. Just because of my Asperger's label! That's partially why I prefer the atypical autism label I got later in its place.

Statsattack, did you end up getting ABA? I'm thankful I didn't (and I didn't because 1: I didn't have that type of behaviors and 2: I was 14 by the time I was diagnosed.)

No i didn't and any help I'd get I'd make a scene if I was a wrongfully convicted prisoner
