I space right out either by dancing rhythmically to the point where I hypnotisde myself; dancing spasmodically so I lose myself in the whilrwind or just rooting to the spot and watching the drunk revellers lurch about.
If I liked the music however I reckon that I could probably zone into the experience. The other proviso would be enough personal space to lose myself in the music. The thought of going to a club right now terrifies me... the noise the hustle and bustle * shivers

Well I don't, I can count the times on one hand I've been dragged into nightclubs, its a horrible place. Crowded, lights, noises, rude people, bas behavior, everything costs a fortune. On top of all that you have to pay to get in.

Defintely relate to everything said here. My sensory overload issues only kick in if im stressed or tired in which case I wont be doing any socialising anyway. The only time i'll be anywhere near a club is if im feeling in perfect* health. Even then I will either 1) leave very early 2) shutdown as a defense mechanism

I don't handle night clubs well at all! Music is too loud, people move to fast, the lighting is erratic and the general expectations around how to carry yourself are quite high... I can handle any one of those things, but, all put together, I get very overwhelmed.

I couldn't handle it. I only went there because my "friend" took me there. I hated the darkness with flashing lights where I couldn't see things properly, hated the overwhelmingly loud music which made it impossible to talk and hated the atmosphere there where introverts/weirdos didn't seem to be welcome. Everything's expensive, too.
I also don't know how to dance. I just can't. And I honestly thought other people looked ridiculous when they were dancing. I found it embarrassing. I wouldn't want to do that sort of thing.
I stayed there only for 5 minutes or so and then waited for my "friend" for a few hours in a nearby cafe.

No just no.
Yeah, this would be my answer too. It's a sensory hell and you have to bloody pay for the experience! I have been dragged a couple of times but *shutter* I would never go again.

Never been to a nightclub but went to a loud bar at 19. Everyone ridiculed me for not tipping and I loudly proclaimed "they expect you to tip ON TOP of these insane prices?" If I wanted to torture myself I should at least get a few bucks for the experience not have to empty my wallet. I was at a bar a couple years ago and the damn loud music is just too much to handle!

I don't. No meltdown, no shutdown, but the noise and clamor overwhelms me. I can't isolate any single sound enough to do something like manage a conversation. I have electronic hearing protection (clamps down on max db), so I think I could handle it better now, but all I normally do is sit there doing nothing.

It's rare that I go to a nightclub, but when I have been before, I didn't like it. It's so noisy that I couldn't hear myself think, and I couldn't talk to anybody either and they couldn't really hear each other either unless they stood or sat in the corner or outside. I just felt so bored, and the dim lighting made me feel dazed, and I don't like drinking too much so I felt like I was the most sober person in the place, and I was just watching the clock the whole time.
