Temple Grandin is known for saying half the people who ever worked at NASA were on the spectrum. ( http://www.inc.com/kimberly-weisul/temp ... rtups.html )

I noticed that NASA is hiring "people with disabilities" so I thought some might care to know ( https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/354140000 )

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

To apply under this announcement, you must be an individual with an intellectual disability, a severe physical disability, or a psychiatric disability.

If you are offered a position, you must be able to provide proof of your disability. Acceptable proof is appropriate documentation (e.g., records, statements, or other appropriate information) issued by:

1) A licensed vocational rehabilitation specialist (State or private); OR

2) A licensed medical professional (e.g., a physician or other medical professional certified by a State, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory, to practice medicine); OR

3) A Federal agency, State agency, or an agency of the District of Columbia or a U.S. territory that issues or provides disability benefits (e.g., Social Security Administration).

I wonder if you would have to be eligible for SSI or SSDI to qualify.

Most likely that question is answered during the application process as they ask you questions to determine eligibility.

Unlikely.

There are opportunities like this with many government agencies, though. I forget where I read about this, but if you're disabled and can work, it's worth looking into them. I have a friend who got a pretty nice job with SSA via such a means.
