Every week in my church a candle is lit in honor of some cause or another; and someone, often the pastor, reads a short 2 or 3 minute dedication about the topic. Well, I asked to do one in April for autism awareness;however I'm not exactly sure what to say. Any suggestions would be appreciated because I am stumped

That's really awesome I would say something about it being a spectrum talk about the early signs

Mention something about how even those whole are severely affected are aware, understand and have feelings, maybe talk a bit about the need for support, understanding and services in the community

... that we are people with feelings, and that we get as lonely and anxious as any shut-in ...

Yes, I would specifically use the word "are people with feelings"'; too many people dehumanize us. I like what asdoggeek used as a beginning though, with the addition of making sure that it specifies that we're people, and that everyone on the spectrum deserves support, not just those who are stereotypical, nonverbal, rocking in a corner, humming, type.

What made you bring up the topic in the first place? Maybe that would be a good starting point.

I was interested in raising awareness for autism, and since April is autism awareness month I think that would be an appropriate situation.
P.S. Is your avatar an Absol? That's my favorite pokemon +1
