I'm interested in mass transit, so I want to know if you guys ever use it.

I take the 164 or 171 bus when I go to NYC, sometimes I take the Bergen County Line train too. In NYC, I use the buses and subways.

Do you ever use mass transit, and what transit systems have you been on. Please discuss it here.

I occationally use the city busses in my Southeast Wisconsin city.

I have also used Metra which is the commuter train in the Chicago area.

I have always been interested in mass transit although here, mass transit only serves the Mayo Clinic.

I worked as a bus conductress once, I don't know if that career still exists nowadays - drivers sell tickets... but you used have to walk up and down the aisle of the bus, selling and checking tickets, and you'd ring a bell when everyone had exited the bus and the doors were clear. There were other types of bell ringing codes too. They still have them (conductors) on trams here in some states.

I think I've been on most systems, bus, train, tram... ferries were a common form of public transport in the city I grew up in. I've also travelled on long distance trains, from Sydney to Perth, and I've also caught an overnight train, in a sleeper carriage with fold down sink, in Vietnam.

Subways Rule! I love public transportation, couldn't live without it. I take the 17 from Jamaica to Flushing every day, and the R, F and V when I go to Manhattan.

I love buses. I would every so
often go to Reno on a casino/
room package. $200 gets you food,
lodging(4 nights, 5 days), $100 in
money back tactics,
and a renewed perspective of why
I live in San Francisco. and How
else are you to see how other people
live?

I see there are a lot of mass-transit lovers here! Radical, maybe we can be freinds! Are you near my age(14)? Queens is about an hour away, maybe we can meet in Manhattan sometime!

yeah.

When my car is being fixed, I don't really have much of a choice. I don't have anything against public transport except for the cost of it and the fact you have to wait for ages.

 Public Transportation where I live is a joke. It takes 2 hours by bus to get someplace that should only take 20 minutes by car, and the amount of time increases exponentially the farther you need to go. I have been 5 minutes late to the bus before and still managed to beat it to my destination by 10 minutes. Also it's dirty, it smells like cigarettes and illegal aliens, and you have to deal with a bunch of trailer trash and crackheads. I forgot to mention that sometimes it breaks downand it's frequently late, so it ends up taking you another hour to get somewhere if you heve to transfer. I finally have a car and hope to have a license within a week, so hopefully I can swear off public transportation forever.

I know cigarette smoke, but how do illegal aliens smell?

I used to take the bus to school sometimes, and I used the train to go shopping out of the town I lived in, which was quite small. Now that I can drive, it's easier to do that.

For a while, I only had a moped, which was fine for going to work and stuff, but no good for long journeys. I used to visit my boyfriend (who is now my husband), who lived 200 miles from me, and I used the train for that. Part of my journey was on the London Underground too.

I don't like crowds, and I don't like touching things that other people have touched, but I am clumsy and need to hold the handrail on stairs. I always come off the train feeling dirty and tired, but it got me places. I also find it hard to try new things. A journey I know is OK, but trying a new route is hard work.

I have a car now, so I very rarely need to use public transport any more.

I don't like busses at all, but don't mind trains of all types. I try to travel outside of rush hour because I don't like being in a crowded car. I usually wear a walkman on public transit to block outside noise.

In Vancouver we have the Skytrain, which is a fully-automatic elevated system. I travel a lot, so I've also used the Metro/Subway/Tram systems in Boston, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Montreal, Toronto and Paris.

Paris is the only place where I've ever had any trouble, really. I got on the wrong train once and had to retrace my steps. I also didn't know that the RER and M lines have different hours of operation and freaked when I got to the RER station and was told there were no more trains for that night. I thought they meant there was no more transit that night, but it turned out the M line stays open an hour later than the RER and I made it to an M station just in time.

Yeah... it's often inconvenient, but I still feel a lot safer taking it than driving a car with all my visual perceptual quirks. At least with crowds on a bus, I can sort of retreat into my shell when I get overloaded... when I get overloaded while driving, however, I'm a danger both to myself and to everyone else on the road.

I find the best way to get around cities is one of these;

http://www.bromptonbicycle.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=ownerinfo.foldingguide

Quite a few people comment about it and I find it a good way to get to know people. Bike is the fastest way to get around central London or Glasgow.

I fly a lot between Glasgow and London. I try to fly at time when it is only business me on the plane and no annoying families with whinnying kids. I also have an executive lounge card I finds it makes it a bit less stressful.

I only get the train when I have to. I don’t catch the bus very much at all. I don’t drive either, in the cities where I live I can get to everything with out one, and parking is very hard.
