That sounds about right. But usually all those digression lead back to the same topic. I tend to mix this with a strong desire to monologue and I know most people cant follow the thread. They are often shocked when I relate the tertiary or nonary digression back to the original topic, because they thought we had finished talking about that 20 minutes ago....

Sometimes I know this is not quite the thing to do, but it's so compelling.

That's exactly what I do. It's one reason I got diagnosed.
BTW Adamantium, I really appreciate your posts. Kudos.

Does anyone else have this?

When I talk, I jump about often, from one subject to a seemingly unrelated topic, to the point that some said it sounds like thought disorder.

I saw this come up again and saw my earlier response where I said I had circumstantial speech.

Since then I've read my therapists' records, and found that I have displayed both tangential speech and circumstantial speech. I guess sometimes I am not all that good at steering things back. Ah,well.

I love some of the descriptions of what this is like: "an information firehose", "talking to an anthill". :D I do it constantly. That's why I don't talk much.

Tangential, circumstantial & monologuing all apply for me & have for as long as I can remember. I had no idea it was an Aspie thing (I'm not yet diagnosed & only recently came to the realisation that I might have Aspergers).

Tangent monologue on the loose should have been in my name somewhere, kinda like a warning label. I know it can be painful to talk to me but I always try to be interesting and bring information to a conversation otherwise there is no point on talking but people do not appreciate that is like they want a tropical drink for the fake umbrella and not really a drink at all which makes me wonder why bother to order a drink for the ornament? Better to talk for a purpose that have conversations about the weather most people have a smart phone by know so checking the weather doesn't really require public opinion.
