This is something I've been wondering about for a long time...

What's the majority Aspie-view on hugs?

Not being very social is very much associated with the spectrum, same with unwanted physical contact. So what about hugging?

I myself love hugs. I thrive on them with my friends. If I can't hug a friend, something is wrong and I feel alienated and embarrassed. I also like to hug people as initiation of possible friendship—though it often ends up awkward even though they accept (HOW DO YOU SOCIAL INTERACTION?!)

However, I don't often like hugging my family. I'm really hesitant and extremely uncomfortable if a family member comes to hug me. And I'm not sure why!

What do you think?

It depends on the person/situation...I rarely get them and don't initiate, except maybe when my mum is upset.
If it's someone I know very well, is completely platonic and maybe after sharing something personal then it can be welcome. If it is someone I don't know very well who is all "touchy feely" or drunk then I will feel very uncomfortable and angry with them.

I do not care for them. Now if there is a girl I like that would be different.

Yes, yes and yes!! I love hugs. Especially bear hugs. I love the heat of another person's body, their scent, the feeling of being protected and cared for.
God, I miss this one friend of mine now. She just gives the best hugs.

Most of the time, I cannot stand being touched. But, rarely, I'll feel enough of a connection with someone that it becomes something I enjoy. With those people I can be very physically affectionate. Like I'm trying to make up for what I'm missing the rest of the time.

Aww, thank you!

I have one very good friend, but in our interaction, we're more into talking to each other, and physical contact is limited to a handshake whenver we meet/part. :P

I love hugs but am incredibly shy and have a hard time trusting people. This effectively means that is dependent on the person.

I can hug my wife and my youngest child (who always wants hugs) with anyone else its just plain awkward. I don't initiate. I am not into hand shaking either, although I am trying to make that more of a conscious habit.

Jason.

I recoil and flinch when touched, which usually offends whoever is displaying affection.
