Dr. Phil, what do you think?

Do you picture Dr. Phil with his bald head and mustache?
Do you hear the theme song playing in your head?
Do you hear his voice saying a phrase like 'do I look like I fell off a turnip truck?
Or do you get a combo of those sounds and images?

What is your thought process when you think of a person or a place etc?

Excuse me, but this has nothing to do with Autism.

I'd say this belongs in Random discussion.

I'm just trying to figure out how other people think.

If I say van Gogh... what is the first thing that comes to mind?
Or perhaps Mike Myers?

It really doesn't matter who or what... I just wonder if you get a visual image first or something else?

I think it does. It's about mental processing and modes of thinking.

Yes,I do think this has "something" to do with AS in the context of how OP asked it.It is about how your brain processes words and it a big part of AS.

To answer your question...I see his image then maybe hear his voice but without specific words because I only "know" him from half paying attention to some commercial he was in,I have never watched his show.

VanGogh...I see the book-cover of the book his brither wrote about him(It was a self-portrait)and see the word "LIFE" which is part of the title,I think.

Mike Myers...."groovy Baby" and vague image.

I imagine a picture of his set, him talking with someone, him talking to the TV, etc. No sound, just pictures.

I'm aspie...

Ah much better. :D

I get a picture in my head both times. Nothing else, no words, no sounds etc.

This one.

But I don't really see his face, owing to my prosopagnosia.

for me...
I can picture Dr. Phil more or less... but I can also hear sound clips. I especially remember the theme song.

Same thing with Mike Myers... I actually first picture Austin Powers and think of snip-bits about his lost mojo. I also think about the movie Shrek... and I think of the opening songs for both Shrek 1 & Shrek 2.

But if I think of van Gogh- I actually think of Les Iris first. I can actually see the painting in my head but at the same time- it might be a mirror image of the painting as I can never remember if the flowers that seem to be falling out of the vase are on the right or on the left.

For Van Gogh I see sunflowers.

For Dr Phil, tho I know not who he is, I see some sort of mad professor type with glasses, bald head etc etc, that old stereotype.

I just asked a couple friends about this....
for Dr. Phil a couple of them said they picture Oprah (since he first appeared on oprah before having his own talk show)
Van Gogh- just general art, but they couldn't think of anything specific.
& Mike Myers- the only comment I got was 'funny'.

Our brains are so amazing... we all THINK so differently but of course we'd never know unless we ask these sorts of questions.

Yeah, I think this is on topic also. Did you notice that a LOT of stuff here is about MENTAL processes? As for me, it is hard to say. I get almost a feeling(hard to explain) about Dr. Phil, and his attitude/expression. For van Gogh, general art, the fact that he cut off his ear, a profile that I have seen. For Mike Myers, look, atitude, some films like shrek and austin powers. That is just from the name, and not much effort. I COULD come up with LOTS more. Well, I have never really been much for art, so van gogh isn't THAT comprehensive. Then again, I could probably only name a dozen films with mike myer, and concepts that might appear on dr phil. FUNNY, I may know more about HOKU or the olsen twins!

Dr. Phil: Vague picture of the set, a jolt of annoyance, after a second an image of him.

Van Gogh: A vague picture, sort of between Starry Night and the Mountainous Landscape Behind Saint-Paul Hospital one, though the print in my old English class called it Landscape at San Remy, so I don't know.

Mike Myers: More of an impression, not really visual, auditory, or anything... not sensory or emotional or anything like that at all, hard to explain.
