So there is a lot of talk here about the importance of finding someone qualified to properly do an ASD evaluation, but how exactly do I find that person? I've been web searching for about an hour and nothing is coming up. Are there good databases somewhere?

I'm in California. I had some sort of an evaluation by the state Regional Center, but it seemed cursory, and today I found something indicating that they only evaluate for eligibility for their services, which totally makes sense based on my experience:

So I want to get a comprehensive evaluation with a specialist who has experience diagnosing women.

A web search finally worked for me, but it was not easy. Hopefully someone here on WP can offer a reference to someone in your area. Best wishes!

You can find a license clinical psychologist who screens for Asperger's and autism on Psychology Today's website. Their should be some listings in California where you are. There should probably also be some autism clinics that does diagnostics, too. Here in Seattle the Univ of Washington's Adult Autism Clinic does evaluations. Psychologists cost between $95 - $250 depending on the length of their session.

How we found the person who did my diagnosis was ask the local autism resource center for a recommendation for someone who is good at adult diagnoses. They received a specific neuropsych who diagnosed me.

I evaluated you, and I am right 100% of the time. My prognosis is, you're you. Not only are you you. But you are also you 100% of the time. I am sorry, I cannot answer, or ask any questions, and please, forgive me for being me.
