I have Aspergers I am in permanent full time employment that I like with the help of many people on this board.

I was thinking of volunteering some of my weekends to help others with Autism.

I have no idea where to start but I am just wondering if this is even a good idea?

Would having Aspergers improve my knowledge and understanding of those with classic autism or would I be useless?

I would go for it. You have experience with being an aspie and also that always looks good on a resume if things happen at your job.

I am considering that also.

Fortunately, a university in my area runs a sort of community center for peeps on the ASC spectrum. According to their web site they have groups for different ages, volunteer companions, and so on. I am thinking I may just go and check it out and just see if and where I might plug in. It may turn out I use it as a support resource for myself, maybe for volunteer work, or who knows what combination thereof.

Yeah, try it. I know one person with ASD (Asperger's) who works as a respite worker for adults with classic autism and she's very good at it. The clients like her a lot and ask for her to come back!
