Do you reply right away? Wait several hours or a day/days?

I don't use text messaging so I wouldn't know.

I very rarely give my phone number to anyone.

Only my manager at work has it and he texts me every Sunday night to tell me what time to be in on Monday.

I never reply.

I mostly reply quite promptly.

The trouble I have though is getting the right tone in a short message. And often I'll forget the niceties, eg, hello, goodbye, good luck, sorry, until after I've sent the message. And then I feel that sending a second one risks crossing over with any reply the recipient might be texting back.

I make heavy use of simple smile and sad emoticons to help people realise that I'm joking or moody, but I don't know if it helps them or whether they even need them.

I only text my mum and dad and I always respond straight away as I know that I will never remember if I do not.
Also, I am interested to see what they say and I am often doing nothing.

I wait hours, sometimes days, and sometimes I never text back. I feel guilty about it but I have SO much trouble figuring what to say back. With my parents and sister though, I respond quickly.

It really depends. If it was a compliment like, "Thanks." then I would assume the conversation is finished or he starts another convo.

I always have my phone next to me (except when it's shower time ) so I usually reply right away. Ofc when I'm not driving though. I'm not one of those idiots that text while behind the wheel.

I am very uncomfortable with it, includes internet too.

In text messages I usually reply in very few words, as few as possible, if I'm sending a reply at all.

I don't understand your post. Do you mean that you are uncomfortable on the internet as well as in texting?

Because I'm doing a concious effort to try to go outside my comfort zone and do "social" things that really isn't naturally for me.

Cool. Well done. So am I, I was acting like I do in real life on this forum and just watching people interact and trying to learn from it. But now I have decided that I am going to take part in it and engage with people. This is scary and I appreciate people not being mean.

Thanks and the same to you. Well I'm doing my best, sometimes I get confident enough but unfortunately it mostly feels too chaotic and unsafe.

if I don't do it immediately I forget entirely

same problem with messages

I prefer people come and talk to me or call and speak voice type calls - my memory is bad along with my timing ability, I can never figure out when is good for someone

I don't text anyone, I rarely use my cell phone at all.
